Rance has had a great year, but on occasions he does give away blatant free kicks.

This is an area he needs to work on. The one in the last quarter bemused me. He had his head down in Nick Riewoldts stomach trying to keep him away from the contest. If it wasn't the last quarter and such a tight match I almost would of laughed. Dont know if ive ever seen a free kick like that given away before.

On a side note, he showed alot of courage to get back on after being cleaned up. Saw him throw his guts up on the wing 2 minutes later. Good on him for coming back and on throwing himself into the contest like he did

Being at the St Kilda end I thought we got a lot of lucky calls. Watching the replay though I thought the umpiring was pretty good the whole night. St Kilda got it a bit in the last but it wasn't too bad. You can't expect them to have no mistakes.

Is someone going to open a thread about the umpiring every single week? After a great win like that, I would have thought people would prefer to focus on how awesome we were. After watching the replay in cold blood, sure there were a few average decisions made but they went both ways.

How many average decisions were made by the players throughout the night (whilst getting paid a lot bloody more and doing what they do full time)??

Kosi free kick in the second quarter in the goal square (which he missed) was so soft it wasn't funny. :mad:
No it wasn't, it was a blatantly obvious free kick. His initial tackle was fine, then he jumped on Kosi and wrapped his arm around his neck. Was directly under me and very obvious. They showed the replay and everyone went berserk because they thought it was the initial one, and the angle wasn't great to see the secondary contact which was high. Honestly I hate umpires as much as anyone but does anyone seriously think we just happen to get a raw deal every single week? Because almost every single week there is a thread about it. Just a wild suggestion, perhaps there's some bias involved?

My favorite was the 'no 15 play on' that resulted in a st kilda goal. Not only was the saints player tackled with prior opp. But he was 360d. That's holding the ball.

(at this stage, up by 20 in the last) saints ran into an open goal and it started their run. Nearly swung the game IMO.

Thoughts?

I think you are referring to the incident where Cotchin tackled Del Santo. not only was Del Santo tackled for 360d, he also dropped the ball at the end. This has been a free kick since Methuselah was a kid.

Also thought that Morris should have got a free in the last when he was tackled high and the ball spilled for a saints goal.

I've now watched the last two quarters twice and am obliged to say that these were the only two decisions that I have any issue with. The Cotchin one was a simple umpire's howler while the Morris non free could simply be explained by the umpire not picking the contact up in the frenzy of the play and congestion of players. We got away with a few too. The Cotchin one hurt mainly because of that brilliant mark and finish by the St Kilda player. Glad it's only supporters like us that spend energy on this kind of discussion. Every second spent by the players and coaching staff on side shows like this is a second that isn't spent on developing the team game. Which is unrecognisable from the disfunctional mess of a couple of years ago. I never believed we could turn around a generation of neglect in just over two years.

some of those calls in the final quarter were disgraceful. did ivan maric have a crack at an umpire's wife or something??

Umpires have wives?

They are the lowest common denominator, but hey it's all turned out ok we win, the tankers got a lesson in Adelaide the second best young list got murdered by buddy, and essendon raised the money for their new headquarters.

What a great weekend
:cool::confused::D
