Not one good kick among the 7 defenders we named. Our midfield was to blame for the loss but it just highlighted how much our backline relies on them because they aren't skilled enough in their own right.

our backline players do not know how to read the play, they are beaten 8/10 in contested play.
None of them man up.
Said this for a number of years now, watching tonight's game I haven't seen any improvement from our backline in 2016!

Reid will help, but we need at least one or two elite kicks among the small defenders. I thought maybe Williams might develop into one, but maybe we need Aish or Pendles or even Fasolo back (but we need him forward!).

We currently have only 3 genuine AFL standard backmen on our entire list in Williams, Brown and Reid. Reid can't get on the park. Unless we get some huge improvement from Landgon, Marsh, Frost, Ramsay, Sinclair and Maynard we are in for a lot more spankings like tonight.

Ramsay is a terrible decision maker, Sinclair and Maynard are simply horrible not up to standard, Langdon has gone horribly downhill as had frost you can't win a game when u can't get the ball out of defence when they can't kick

Based on tonight's game, to be fair they were being bombarded with very little support from the mids.
Barely had time to regroup before the ball came back.
Prepared to see what happens in the next couple of weeks.
Reid will help and it seems Marsh did okay.

Most of our backline were selected with late or rookie picks. Players picked late are picked late for a reason, mostly because they have an issue/limitation or 2 in their games. To bring elite backmen in we need to use a few early picks.

Swans has 76 inside 50s, so it's almost impossible to lay the blame on the backs tonight. Swans forward pressure was also very good and our constant attempts to handball our way out of defense got us into trouble tonight, mainly because each handball was given to a runner who was 1-2m away.

Im glad someone has finally got into Langdon, I too think he is just a poor decision maker who stands 20 meters away from his direct opponent then he tries to run forward ball gets turnedover and his opponent has an impact with a goal or assist he has bee doing it since half way from last season , and I bet thats why they dropped him late last year and this year he is doing it again, he needs to go back to the magoos to sort out his game or he will find himself delisted at the end of the year, he is very ordinary has been for awhile now

Sadly Won't have a Early Pick this Year

As mentioned in the op I didn't blame them for the loss.

I don't recall him being dropped last year.

last 2 games of the year

He played them both. He played 22 games last year.

Frost was dropped for the last 2 games last year.

I don't think Tommy's a defender. He is too slow to be a good one at any rate and his kicking and decision making aren't good enough at this stage. Could possibly be played on a wing if he had better endurance or as a marking option up forward but then again...his kicking?

Did you watch the game? A hell of a lot of those inside 50's for the Swans were from repeat entries because our backline were unable to hit a target or win a contest. We had absolutely zero transition from our backline... the commentators were saying it all evening.. did you watch the game???
