With Port using there white and black jumper which i have nothing against and Eddie is arguing to have a different guernsey...

Why dont Port just and a bit of teal or whatever that green colour is at the top of their jumper. That should shut Eddie up and also please Collingwood/Port fans. It wouldnt look to bad i think.
Could somebody Photoshop it?

Cheers,

'Their' black and white jumper not, 'there' black and white jumper, sorry pedantic I know, but we are all here to help each other, even with spelling. If you are over it why photoshop it? Let the Tealalaide fans and Eddie fight it out amongst themselves, Eddie is well paid and the Teallheads have got nothing better to do. Its not like they live in the 1st world or anything is it? I refuse to get my knickers in a knot over their inferiority complex and confusion over their teams name and colours.

What i dont understand is, Port Adelaide Power is not the Port Adelaide Magpies correct? They are two different clubs, so when Port Adelaide started in the AFL they seemed to have embraced the Port Magpies histroy? What about all the SA teams in the SA league? LOL.

The Port Adelaide Magpies couldnt come into the AFL as their current name/idently because of Collingwood so they assumed a new idently as Port Adelaide POWER hence there is no bloody tradition??????

When a team is religated or promoted they dont assume two identities in two different leagues!!! This is just getting stupid! Port should just give up the black and white, battle that wont win long term!

Mate they've proposed it many times I'm sure. There's a thread on the PA board and as you say it doesn't look too bad. Maybe its getting too close to ours and hence the AFL disallow it.

In all honesty I could not care less if they wear their prison bars in the heritage round - but the point that is being missed is when they joined the AFL they agreed that they would be a seperate entity and hence not embrace their history and start a new club - no1 10 years in they have decided they want to be the Port Adelaide Magpies again!!! Rediculous!

For special occasions such as heritage round go for it - but on a more regular basis then that no way!

keeping with the pendantic theme, the title should really be port adelaide vs. eddie - we're over it!! not were...:p

but yes, port won there only flag in the afl as the power. surely winning your first flag (and being very successful in the years leading up to this) is the start of a new tradition. Port should be putting the magpies behind them and start building a new tradition as the power so one day when, say the cygnet ports from tassie want to enter the afl-they can put up the same fight :D

Agree with this. We simply cannot have two teams named the magpies in the AFL and nor can we have two teams who share the same colours on their jumper.

Fact is we joined the AFL in 1990 and they joined in 1997.

1897...

That's odd, I could have sworn the AFL was once known as the VFL and was operating way before 1990. Boy was I way off.

I never thought it was a big deal but my father is really passionate about not allowing Port Adelaide to wear the black and white. His argument is he supports the black and white stripes, growing up in Hobart he supported the Glenorchy Magpies and any team in any league that had the black and white stripes, he even had a soft spot for Claremont when they had the black and whites on.

So it is very valuable to our brand. If someone came to Australia from England and was a fan of Newcastle or even Notts Co, or from Italy and supported Juventus, or from Tassie and supported Glenorchy they will identify with the black and white stripes. If PA are wearing them and are having a better season than us they will probably support PA.

You see this is where we lose the argument slightly.

They were wearing prison bars in 1870. And then they argue that the SANFL is just as good as the VFL because they won a game or two against the Big V in the 30's.

Then they argue it should be VFL/SANFL/AFL and under this argument we're beaten by a good 27 years.

Much simpler leaving it to AFL IMO

Mate your old man needs to get down to AFL HQ because anything to do with branding is important. Smart man by the sound of it.
