I suppose conollys rotation of his players pre season will continue with the return of McPharlin,Parker,Waterhouse and Bell while a few of the bigger names will be rested.
As much as I would like to see the team overcome Port, I think we need to give the likes of Headland,Pavlich and Haselby a break.
Nothing would be worse than loosing them for first round.

If we field the same side we did against the Bulldogs on Saturday you will win. We were missing 8 or 9 of our top 2-13 players.

Having said that hopefully, Cornes, Primus, Wakelin, Monty, Hardwick and Kingsley come back and that Wanganeen, Francou and James get a lot more gametime than what they did.

I still think you will win.

Well in our 2 outings this season Fremantle has had at least 5 of there top 10 out
So I cant see why he wouldnt do it again like I mentioned earlier.

Tredrea is out isnt he? Damn I was looking forward to McPharlin taking him on.

Yeah woulda been a good matchup. He'll probably take on Cornes instead - which would also be a good matchup.

McPharlin won't be playing, and it doesn't look like he will be playing any pre-season games. Might even miss a round or two in the regular season?

Even though Port will have players missing, so will we and I expect Port to win because (unfortunately) we are their bunnies.

How's Tredrea going by the way Macca? Hope he is fit for round 1.

In the recent past any team with a speedy midfield and any real midfield depth canes us (Port, Brissy, even the Bullies).

Hopefully that might change a bit this year.

I'm expecting Freo to win.

Looking forward to Rd.5 even more this year :D

Watching Freo play Power over here has recently been some of the most miserable viewing.
We got towelled last year which unfortunately was Dale's last game with the club and in 2000 I sat in the open at the WACA in what was the worst weather I have had to endure...we won a very scrappy encounter.
Couldnt care less about who wins or loses this weekend...as long as (a loss) isnt by much and there are minimal injuries.

He he, not for us Port supporters though! ;)

You obviously weren't at one of the two games I mentioned ...if I rated it as miserable to be at, I can't imagine what it was like to be there supporting the losing team.

Why? WC have one truly pacey midfielder... Judd... maybe Atkins as well.

Like I was yelling at this years Wizard Cup game.... Who's gonna stop Pav!?!!

Stopping Pav won't be a problem - He'll be down in the backline all year.

Just like in the Wizard Cup game this year? You guys had no one that could stop him in that game and it'll be the same in round 5.

No, I didn't go to any matches in 2000.....lucky I didn't go to that one! ;)

Port tried the thug treatment but for once the boys stood up and played better footy.

Mr Bogan better get a two week holiday for that poor "marking" attempt on Haddrill. But then after the Wilson verdict, I suppose it will be shown that Bogan was defending himself.

I know it's only a practice match, but I took quite a few positives away from the game.

Here's testing my memory after a couple of beers.

Haddrill was very solid taking some pressure marks (and a knee in the head) and running out of the backline.

Woods looks more confident and stronger (+ 1 kg), plus moved the ball beautifully. He was taking the kick ins.

Andrew Browne showed why he held very highly by the coach. After being cleaned up a couple of times, he went on to display good skills and is quick on his toes and hands.

Sandilands I thought would really spend another year at East Freo getting his skills up to scratch, but he has improved more than I thought. Could be handy as a target down forward, coming off the bench.

Medhurst read the ball well and seemed to be ready to knock the ball to a player in a better position. Got a number of goals and some were from quite acute angles.

McManus was his usual solid self, takling anything in his area. I can't remember any major clangers by him.

Overall the takling was ferocious and they wouldn't let the ball race out of their forward line, they locked it in. The Rugby training was showing.

Bell was solid, a bit aggro, but would you blame him.

Hasleby was "dropped" by Pickett, so I hope he is ok. Pav went off early, but I think it was only precautionary.

Basically a couple of players that I thought would have had "buckleys" of getting a senior game this year, have lifted their efforts to cover for the absences of the well known players.

Great wrap up masai sounds like that side really put on a game even under the added pressure of having so many of our stars out.
Things are looking good for the coming season.

Ah the heads feeling better now.

Forgot to mention the following players :-

Luke Webster looks like he has a strong body / size and showed glimpses that he is gaining confidence after the knee injury. If his old man was playing last night, the Red Cross would have been called in.

Edgecombe (no. 17) took alot of people by suprise, showed some good form.
