Position Change for Eddie

If I may swerve off the Matty Krezuer topic for a second (I know, how exciting!)...

Earlier today I was reading a book inwhich it had a part about Bob Chitty. It said that Bob was 177cm and 84kg and played on the Half Back Flank. Now this got me thinking...
Eddie Betts is quite similar to Bob Chitty allthough Bob was 10kg heavier than Eddie, but they are reasonably the same height. Could Eddie Betts possibly play a Half Back Flank role? I can't recall him ever having a cop at that position. Would it work?

I much prefer him where he was the last few games of this year - rotating between forwardline and occasional stints in the midfield. He is too exciting around goal to have in defence :)

So you're picking a player from 60 years ago and trying to say that a player of a similar height can do the same thing today?

Simple question for you - how much taller are you than your Dad, and how much taller again was your Dad to your Grandad?

Generation on generation we are far taller and bigger than then so the comparison begins and ends with your half thought out post.

Eddie is an exceptional centre clearance player, as evidenced when Ratts played him for spurts in the last few games this year. Watch for Eddie to have a massive influence on games next year with more time in the centre as well as kicking 30+ goals.

Have to agree, his work in the middle in 2007 was very impressive. He has serious ability as a midfielder in fact, and is awesome as a crumbing forward. Just can't see the point of putting him in defense. :)

Fair enough mate, and I am aware of the time difference, but it's still quite interesting to hear peoples opinions. It's just a suggestion

Very true, and again, im just suggesting things. For some reason I am quite keen on hearing other people opinions:thumbsu:

eddie is so dangerous up forward, would be ur best small forward by far.

a little off topic
but why do the blues persist with houla hoops in the back line?
in his first few years i thought he was great up forward and seemed more natural in that area, shame hes being wasted in the backline where he doesnt play his best footy.

thatd be my same opinion on betts down back aswell.

I would probably compare Chris Johnson to him....was a good forward pocket, then went into backline and became a gun back pocket.....

worth a couple of tries in the pre-season.....they are only practice matches so y not practice

throw him in the ruck....

eddie does his best work hitting the packs at 100mph. no chance for HBF or HugeBluesFan.

Fair enough. I just think we have only seen a little of Eddie's midfielder potential, and it would be great if he had the opportunity to develop that side of his game further, rather than a defensive role. Eddie's got lightening reflexes in close, and top-shelf skill execution, which make him damaging in the middle. He'll never be an endurance type midfielder, but with the massive amount of midfield rotation that happens now, that shouldn't be a problem. :)

John Nicholls was around 6'2 or 188 cm and rucked in the 60's/70's. These days he wouldn't be tall enough to play key position let alone ruck and is about as tall as Gibbs & Russell. Would have to play midfield or flank. Eddie is not tall enough to play as a defender.

You might want to do some research and read about the TYPE of player Chitty was. Eddie Betts HBF. Hilarious.
Chitty was aggressive, so what? Eddie Betts lead out tackles this year, thats a comparing fact.
