Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs Collingwood #LightWork

Yep. Its a bit embarrassing one is paid 750k a year and the other probably 100k.

Even that would be pushing it for Naish.

AFL rookie wages are about 80k from memory, SSP players would be on even less you'd think?

He'd still get the 5k or whatever match payment though, and he's strung together 4 good games which is good.

Nice to know he is legit making an actual living due to match payments, clearly the motivation for him to perform and not be dropped is obvious.

Likewise Huge Dixon.

Totally different to Gaff who'd get 750k regardless of whether he's playing or not.

It was a game played in Collingwoods half really . They had repeat entries due to their forward press .

We on the other hand stopped them using the corridor and defended the dangerous scoring zone in our forward 50 , forcing them to either kick long to our interceptors or kick wide and take hard shots on goal .

On the flip side when we managed to work our way through their press we had an open forward line and managed to kick inside 50 to dangerous positions (ryan 💥) to take easier kicks closer to goals on better angles .

As much as I'm proud of our young midfield we were well beaten in open play and field position and our senior players held it together for the win .

Backline was the best they have played all year and got the ball rebounding quickly into dangerous positions

Our forward line made the most of our limited opportunities sprinkled with some Willie magic 🪄

JK justs slots them from anywhere which helps🎯

Makes me wonder how it would go sometimes if the real $$$ were paid and divided amongst the game day team based on them achieving key metrics in games like 1%'rs, total tackle counts, ground ball gets etc etc.

$$$ Would at least be deserved and be based on merit instead of potential, and would reduce resentment among players.

Positives- All of it! Took him until the last quarter but Darling looks like he’s finally shaken the rust off. Best game for the club from XON and Langdon? West was sublime also.

Negatives- ¯\(ツ)
"He's taken one small redeeming step"... quote from my wife on Darling... nothing printable on Darling before three quarter time.

Hugh Dixon has already played more good footy for WCE than Bailey Williams.

His work by hand is probably the most impressive thing - he’s not out of the contest when the ball hits the deck - great to see.

He can be what we wanted Tom Hickey to be (which wasn’t that bad a call as he then went on to fill that role at Sydney.)

Only issue seems to be that he has ended up with Campbell Chesser’s missing jumper. #tight

I loved that boys played every quarter something we haven’t done for a while. They seemed mentally stronger. What would we do without Willie. 🥴🥴

Sheed and yeo to come back through the WAFL also
All the "Best 22" to come back through the WAFL after that performance. Cant mount a case to drop any of the kids after last night. Guys like Gaff can f*ck right off out of the side as far as im concerned and Hurn should be on his last warning.

Hurn ?

Apart from that 1 kick in where he actually tried to hit a dangerous target and missed he was solid all game.

For a 35 year old he still goes alright.

Oh come on - Hurn was decent and has been decent all year. Basically played about 4 roles last week trying to cover for Rotham, Witherden and Edwards stinking it up down back.

Gaff is still one of the hardest working link men in the game - would be great if he could play off a wing where he excels instead of in the guts where he is playing out of position by necessity.

Let’s not overcook it based on this weekend’s great win - we are a better team with Kelly/Gaff/Shuey back in there next week - if they are fit and ready to roll.

If Shuey comes back i'll cringe, and i don't like that. It shouldn't be that way with your captain and a bloke who's entire career you've grown up watching, and yet it totally is.

Even Yeo. Yeo is probably my favourite player in our squad, and i still don't want him back upsetting the apple cart. He's always been a competitor, i'd want him first ahead of any other mids, but i also don't want him b
Many here (incl me) agree with you

Why is he being played out of position? We have many other better options to play the inside role.

I ****ing cringe when i see gaff on the inside, complete waste of a player of his ability.

The experienced players are the one's generally responsible for upsetting everyone and us being shit. Not all of them, but a collection.

Both this game and the North game have been our best games of the season, by a long way. It's coincidently been the games where we've had to really lean on some younger players or randoms, particularly in the midfield, that have been the funnest to watch and make your proudest as a fan.

Even if we lost yesterday i wouldn't have cared TBH. It's not about wins and losses, it's about rebuilding the culture and new brand through our next generation of players.

Kelly can fu** right off. Likewise Gaff. Likewise Sheed 🗑️

I'd legit rather watch West, Aaron Black, XON, Naish, Jamaine, Edwards bumble their way around the centre clearances looking scrappy AF, than i would the 'guns' coming back with the same intensity and attitude which has seen uncompetitive in so many games, like we don't even want to be there.

The skills may be lacking, the inside 50's atrocious at times, the polish gone completely, but at least The Replacements TM have a FARKEN CRACK week in week out. They aren't playing knowing they've got a juicy pay packet waiting for them regardless of their effort.
I think Yeo and Kelly fit in the rounds 2/4 dynamic. Shuey does from a style perspective but I don't want to see him back for a couple of games and then out for a few. I think Gaff has a role to play provided he's not too close to the middle of the contest. I'll forever love Sheed for 2018 but he and Gaff blindly bombing the ball forward from contests is the opposite of what we need. I'd be happy slotting Kelly in and making the rest earn their places playing an attacking style in the twos.

Oh I agree - I would say it’s because we have limited guys who can play there and actually get the ball when the likes of Yeo are out. Gaff at the very least keeps up with the ball all day and does offer 200 games experience. He did also play some of his best footy as an inside/outside mid in 2018 before busted chops….but that’s a long time ago - if he is given the chance to play his natural position as a 29 year old, I think we’ll see more great footy from Gaffy.

How did we come out of match for injuries? Do we think LEdwards will be out for a while?

Nic had his knee iced after the game. Hopefully just part of his routine.

Edwards looks like he’s re-injured his groin that plagued him in the pre-season, so I don’t think we’ll see him for a while.
