Makes its even worse then because a key position player he isn’t.
Why?

Is Rotham a second ruck/forward?

Gotta try different things. Especially considering the usual mob around here who pisses and moans about the same shit being done, then fail to recognise when things are obviously changed up.

Kelly had a mare, felt like there were occasions when he was nearly through, but the ball would slip away. But we didn’t really help him, either. Nothing in the way of blocking and although thought Williams was better today he wasn’t getting the majority of taps. We didn’t help him at all with the tag.

I loved Culley’s game- but also, I love the composure that Bazzo has with ball in hand. Evasiveness of a much smaller guy.

Redden & Hurn good again, both deserve another year. Barrass is genuinely a top line FB and deserves to be in the AA squad based on his back half of the year.

I was at the man u v villa game list night- that ground looked tough last night. I can only imagine how it was today. So although it was clear I have some sympathy for some of the errors we made today.

There will be some tired boys tonight.

Still would MUCH rather have our list than the saints. They are on the precipice of achieving perennial mid table status.

Haven’t watched much of the U/18s this year, so my opinion’s not an informed one. I know he’s pretty short, so imagine he’s got other tools like speed and agility?
Short (175cm) but well built and stocky. Fast enough although I wouldn’t describe him as speedy, reads the play well, gets plenty of the ball, can get through traffic and uses the ball well, clean skills, a right footer. Smart footballer, makes good decisions and distributes the ball well, a footballer rather than an athlete. Plays in defence as well as onball. Very promising player apart from his height, I would be happy if we picked him up with a later pick.

Are forgetting about Oscar Allen? He and Darling should be a solid KPF pairing.
Not really forgetting as he’s one of my favourite players. If Oscar comes in and is a generational full forward great but he hasn’t really played full forward much to date and in my head I had him more suited as a CHF moving higher up the ground.

Think he’ll be a good player but don’t have the expectation he’ll be as dominant in the position as kennedy has been/is particularly in terms of outbodying and finding ways to impact a contest when he’s double teamed immediately next year.

Much like all the posts hoping chesser will be a gun, im hopeful the optimism is rewarded but don’t think I’ve seen enough yet to have the confidence in it as fact.

Sound comment. With Darling aging we need to start looking for a KPF. Wild card is Jammo - but he is a a very speculat ive wild card.

Let me ask this and not aimed at you:

So we we are dropping Shuey, redden (sheed when fit) and Gaff to fit all these players in?

We are drafting replacements for an old midfield on their last legs.

If you hadnt noticed there are 200,000 posts identifying the critical need to replenish our midfield.

Shuey and Redden have 1 year left, Redden just said he's happy to be a bit player and help develop the kids playing WAFL.

Gaff another 30 year old.

Waterman is taller than Darling. But always been played as a 3rd tall, vary rarely the main FF or CHF.

Also Gov may end up forward or even Barrass. Simo keeps saying he wants to trial Barrass forward.

Someone mentioned Bazzo also played forward and J Williams also a development option.

So the cupboard isnt bare and we will keep on drafting a tall or two every draft.

We just need to accept we wont instantly have a champ like JK.

Gov was in AA form pre injuries.

If Edwards becomes solid then Barrass could role forward, believe they've trained him there this season.

Can't guarantee Allen will be fit for a full year, nor Darling for that matter even though he's very durable anything can happen.

Good to have options outside of hoping Allen and Darling will be playing week in week out.

Harry Edward reminds me of a kid that grew into his full stature super early and dominates under 16, and thinking that he is going to be the next big thing, his local team give him a run in the seniors and he all of a sudden looks like a fish out of water

Not saying he wont make it, but he desperately needs to
1) Know his limitations. Someone of the errors he has been making lately are simply due to poor awareness
2) At this level and in this day and age, key backman need to be mobile. Harry has the speed and the turning circle of a double decker bus. He will never be the next Noah Lyles but we have to find a way to try and get him a little faster and more explosive if he is going to be any chance of cementing himself in our best 22

Edwards was the 18th pick in the rookie draft. He's probably already exceeded all expectations. Hopefully he can continue to develop and improve. This is pretty crazy:

Edwards was drafted as 195cm in height, measured at preseason training as 197cm, grew to 200cm in his second year and now stands 204cm tall. This followed 11cm of growth from 184cm to 195cm at 17 years of age, in his draft year.

Waterman had 1 disposal for the 2nd and 3rd quarter.so a half he had 1 handball. Not good enough for a supposedly hard running fitness player who is meant to link play together… he had 6 for the game…. He just isn’t that flash
Seems to have been playing deep forward in the last few games where it is hard to rack up possessions but yes it would be good to see him get his hands on the ball more. Three goals and a goal assist last week in a low scoring game was a pretty handy contribution.

Except he didn't, he played the majority of his junior football as a mid, was picked up as a rookie and has grown so much since (as per the post above) that he's been thrust into being a KPD. Kid is travelling on fine considering his exposure and trajectory.

This board is hilarious sometimes (not specifically the poster I quoted) - "Why aren't Bailey Williams and Harry Edwards the next Dean Cox and Darren Glass! Delist!"

These kids are getting thrown to the wolves due to injuries and senior players around them not being up to scratch. Have some patience for ****s sake.

Showing willingness to try new things from the coaches box ✅
Playing youth in natural positions ✅
Barrass in demi-god mode ✅
Culley finding his feet at the level rapidly ✅
BBW firing some shots ✅

Skill execution letting us down :crossmark:
Work rate not to AFL standard :crossmark:
MC picking unfit players :crossmark:

We're still bloody ordinary but only the most jaded fan wouldn't accept that we have been improving and things are not necessarily as bleak as they looked a month ago.

My man, my good man, the aforementioned post is sarcastic

Please, don't take that literally.

Yeah like I said not necessarily you, think that's more of a build up from the year to date from a lot.

Positives for us was watching the young guys become heavy contributors for us, with some of the more experienced guys taking a back seat.
Culley is such an exciting prospect, the potential there is through the roof.
Bazzo, just love the way he takes the game on and the way he weighs his kicks is a great skill.
Hough just runs all day, does all the 1% stuff, probably took too many safe options with his kicking today when there were attacking options open but we know he’s got it in him.
Barrass has had a fantastic second half of the season and is one of the premier key backs of the comp in my eyes. Likely future captain.
I’m glad Shuey has signed on for another year, just bleeds for the club.
Williams had his best game for the year, yes I’ve been a critic, nice to see him clunk a few and kick a goal. He competed well in the ruck all day and that’s all you can ask for a young tall. He showed some promising signs.
Rotham was great too, looks like we’ve found a role for him when needed. If he doesn’t play second ruck he could still likely be in the side as a half forward or wingman.
Im enjoying the experimenting at the moment and watching the next wave come through and actually impact for us is encouraging.

Thr good thing with those negatives are they are self inflicted and represent a big opportunity opportunity improvement in the off season.

Darren Glass was one of the poorest dogshit excuses for a defender I’d ever seen in his early years.

The verdict is not in on these guys at age 21.

Positives
Good to see BWilliams play what was probably his best game for the club. I was starting to lose hope but he held his own yesterday.
Culley backed up his game from last week and looked good again. Starting to believe in the hype
Barrass was great again. If shuey is capt one more year then I reckon Barrass is next in line.
Bhazzo was pretty good
Thought Rotham was ok as second ruck, worth another go

Negatives
Kelly was obviously playing sore, thought we'd learnt our lesson on that one.
Oneil was quiet after showing a bit last week. Was hoping he would back it up
Waterman apart from a nice mark was barely sighted
Foley doesn't look comfortable in the fwd role (or any role)

Positives:
We held our structures all game, defended well and were competitive at the ball drop when Williams or Rotham halved the ruck.

Negatives:
We got murdered at the ball drop in our defensive half and didn't have the speed or run to break the game open in attack. Can't structure up differently with a Rotham or Foley in the place of Rioli and/ or Petch.
