Dal Santo - this guy is a freak and works alot harder then most give him credit for, has a broken foot/toe at the min but is a future leader of this club

Roo - One of the best fwds in the comp, works as hard as any fwd prob up there with Tarrant in work rate, if he fixes his kicking up slighty then look out.

ball - feel sorry for this bloke, again Thomas made him play when they should of just put a end to his season early last year, that footage of him afetr cats game was scary but knowone has more guts then him

Montagna - has really tuirned himself around this year, reminds me of Mackie at geelong, both players r very skillful but have added something new to both there teams, clearly a standout improver this year

Hayes - showing why he was captain, mot easy coming back from a knee but his courage and work rate is great, slowly will get even better but we won't see him at his best till next year

Harvey - can't write enough good things about this bloke!

Gram - again like Wojinski is at Geelong, all the run out of defence starts with him and he sets up so much of our attack, we need to get him as free as much as possible, in the top 3 most important players at the club in my opinion.

Goddard - always loved him and was looking to really reach his potential b4 going down, will be a very important part of out future.

there i do see some postives signs its hard for me to not have seen a flag with our list!

I think the pick of the bunch thus far would have to be Sam Fisher

Sam Fisher would be the best running defender in the game if Goose and Maxy were playing....

To be a sides number 1 defender and still provide such run is a credit.... would have ot be close to BnF this year

Paul55 - you've just dropped yourself in it. You're Della, the Geelong fan who got yellow carded arent you ??

If oyu were a Saints fan you would have listed Sam Fisher for sure...he's been a standout.

Riewoldt vs tarrant was in regards to workrate, Tarrant isnt half the footballer Roo is but they both have great endurance

Gram vs Wojinski = very sinilar players who create plenty of run out of the backline and have the abiulity to bounce and create

montagna vs mackie - similar players i feel, both very skillful, both early draft picks with good skill and have taken there games to new levels!

Mackie

48 games
avg 13.1 disposals
avg 4.38 marks
avg 1.37 goals
avg 1.71 tackles

Montagna

62 games
avg 16.29 disposals
avg 4.19 marks
avg 1.44 goals
avg 2.95 tackles

Wojcinski

105 games
avg 12.07 disposals
avg 2.21 marks
avg 0.31 goals
avg 1.78 tackles

Gram

41 games
avg 17.46 disposals
avg 4.76 marks
avg 0.37 goals
avg 1.22 tackles

By the numbers, montagna > mackie, gram > wojcinski

another positive, we didnt have to watch footy this week and that half the season is over :)

Spot on. Maguire and Hudghy will release both Fishers to half back and we will start to cause some trouble. If only we could pinch the Weagles game...

Dont forget Sam Gilbert. Hes been somewhat of a revelation...in such a short period of time hes really come a long way. Hes been the beneficiary of some of our injuries and has taken his chance with two hands!

Another positive has been Kosi being able to get through every game so far this season. This in itself has been a great positive considering his horrible run with injuries. Plus, over the last 4-5 weeks hes really showed signs that he's getting his best form back. When hes in-form he is one of our most important players.

As I've said in the Sam Gilbert thread, I think we're actually starting to see some pay-off for all these injuries: incredible depth. With so many players out for the last 3-4 years, many players who would've probably been 2nd stringers have had to step up into #1 roles. In the backline, first we had Maxy, then when he got injured, Goose stepped up, then when Goose got injured, Sam Fisher stepped up, and when Sam was injured for a while earlier this year, we saw Leigh Fisher and Sam Gilbert start to step up. I have the highest respect for Sam Fisher, but I think he would be half the player he is if he hadn't been thrust into the level of responsibility that other people's injuries placed upon him. Now, players also know there's probably 2-3 guys who are playing in the Scorps who have done their job in earlier games/seasons.

As it is, I think from this half of the year on, we will have the most formidable and versatile and accountable backlines in the comp. Add a fine coach with a defensive mindset in Lyon, and the full-back of the century for a backline coach in Sos, and woh-hoh!
