I was just wondering who everyone thought could be a possible AA selection this year from the bombers. Hille is the obvious choice but does anyone think Lloyd, Watson and Welsh could get a spot?

Hille would be a walk up start as second ruckman behind Cox obviously although I think Hille deserves it more.
EDIT: Ah yes, forgot about Sandilands, but if we're serious Hille has been more consistent.

Lloyd should but he'll probably get overlooked again, Welsh has improved a lot but you can be sure that he'll also be overlooked. Basically this is a thread that belongs in the Geelong/Hawthorn threads as the majority of players will be made up from these two teams you would have to think.

Hille would probably be our only realistic chance, but McVeigh would've gone close if he had played most of the season's matches though.

Has anyone watched Fremantles games????
Sandilands has been good all year. He has been a 6/10 all year where as David Hille has been a 4/10 at the start of the year but in the last 6 weeks or so he has been a 8/10. If he keeps on playing like he has been (apart from the Melb game) the he should get it but Sandilands has been more consistant.
Lloyd has been great but if you compare him to other forwards then i doublt he'll make it.
Buddy, Pavlich, Fevola, Brown have all been better then him and there is always at least one spot for a small forward.
McVeigh would of made it if he played 20+ games.
Welsh/Watson have not been good enough

:eek::eek::eek:

Hille was also very good for the first 6 weeks, definitely not a 4/10. Thats why he was in the initial Victorian squad. Just had a bit of a slump with nagging injuries for 3 or 4 weeks after that.

Agreed Lloydy will probably miss out, but will be a shoe-in for the 40 man squad if they structure it like last year, he has definitely been one of the 12 best forwards.

Watson might get into the squad too as one of the best 16 mids.

I still think at the time he was playing better then John Fraser. Fraser got injured in the game and then played reserves for three weeks, so i'm quite happy he didn't play in it now.

I'll state it again, atm its neck and neck between Sandilands and Hille, and i expect Hille to be better for the rest of the year and get a betch spot but a lot of people were saying Sandilands has been average which isn't true.

The 40 man team
Hille - deff in
Lloyd - should be in
Watson - might be in
Fletcher - outside chance

2009 AA 40 man team
McVeigh, Hille, Monfries, Houli, Watson

Hille on the bench, thats all. If he doesnt get it it means he played like last week for the rest of the season (Hille being belted by Jamar was embarassing, Jamar's picture is in the dictionary next to "hack").

Watson might be the real roughy as an inside midfielder, though its still a remote possibility. Too blue collar.

Macca didnt play enough, though he was on track before injury.

Lloydy has been great recently but was hopeless earlier in the year, and the big forward competition is huge this season (Franklin Fevola Reiwoldt Brown Bradshaw Pavlich Richardson would all get the nod before Lloydy). Fletch is noticably slowing (gogo gadget arms just dont seem to reach as often anymore) and not going to get the nod ahead of players like Skarlett.

Hille is the only realistic option.

If Lloyd dominates for the remainder of the season he may push for a place on the interchange.

Dare i say, paddy rider?

Not the worst call - I was thinking about floating his name too. They do need to name 12 defenders in the squad & probably 7 in the team - hasn't been too many banging the door down consistently this year. If he finishes the year well he could be half a chance.

Haha, by all means, you can say Paddy Ryder, but it won't get him selected. Hasn't done enough this year to warrant selection. I think the selectors might put an outside mid/wingman as the halfback as I really can't see too many defenders deserving of AA honours, due to injury or inconsistency really.

Hille is our only realistic chance. If Lloyd was playing like he is now all season, then he too may be up for a gong. The same applies for Welsh I believe. But up and down seasons will cost Welshy and Lloyd I think.

if you believe that anyone from essendon can make the AA team you are way off, hille has no chance at all and anyone else can just forget about it, face it essendon are not a good side they have no good players and it will be a long while until they get some.

Go away.
Post your rubbish on your own board don't come here saying our side has no talent when for the best part of 40 years Geelong had none themselves.

Hille is almost a certainty, but then again, nothings certain in footy these days. Who are the guys who select the team? That could play a part as well with player preferences and dare i say it - favouritism......

If McVeigh had played a full season in the form he's been in then you'd probably give him the nod too.

Stanton is one for the future in terms of brownlow votes and AA selection but not just yet.

Gumbleton AA 2010!!!:thumbsu:
