Like the genre, HATE the fans who think their high and mighty for listening to a music genre
a Silver Mt Zion+Godspeed are good stuff
Sigur Ros is decent, very unhappy i missed the chance to see them live
Kayo Dot+Mauldin of the wall is good, more avant garde though
TV on the radio if you can class them as post rock is also a great band
Im more into post metal though, Isis+pelican

Sigur Ros, Mogwai and Godspeed are all pretty good. Explosions in the Sky put me to sleep.
Yeah people seem to class them as post-rock but I think that's just cause there's nothing else to label them as. It's a very broad genre when you look at all the stuff people put under that label. I mean, Sigur Ros and TV on the Radio are so very different, yet both considered post-rock. Just one of the many examples of how genres are pretty stupid.
Amen on Isis, mate. Oceanic is still probably one of my top 5 albums, and Carry one of the best songs ever.

I had no idea the genre even existed.
I love Sigur Ros. They were so amazing live and it's a pity that no one ever says anything when I wear my Sigur Ros t-shirt out, but if I wear another band t-shirt, even my Hoobastank one (don't ask, long story) I'll get people mentioning it.
I've never been to a gig where the band got a standing ovation at the end.
Their string-quartet-turned-band Amiina are awesome too.

To be honest, defining what genre is which isn't my stong suit. Having said that, I'm dig the post-punk revival of the last few years. Arctic Monkeys, Interpol, Strokes, Q and not U.

This statement applies to the vast majority of fans of a particular artist/genre. It is amazing the musical bigotry that gets posted on this board. There is an utter disdain by some for others tastes. Music to me is about what ever the individual likes and the right NOT to justify that like.
I am actually amazed how many people listen to music that they don't like and then get into meaningless debates about that. Seems a waste of effort to me.
Back to the thread there was a discussion on post-rock a while back and this link was kindly posted then. Silent Ballet compilations for free download.
To add to the list mentioned I have been listening to Battles and Maserati as of late and I find them impressive.

Fair enough. I was obviously just taking a cheap jab at you because - in some circles - PT is referred to as post-rock.I definitely see your point, though. And it's just one of the myriad of reasons why genre labels in general are so stupid.
