Well we have just seen trade period finish up, and while the draft is the most important part of the post season, it takes years to declare that a good or bad result, so the close of the trade period seems as good a time as any to assess how our post season has gone.
I will no doubt miss some things but so far;
- Signed Maric for a one year extension (I hated it at first cos he's seemingly cooked but with the signing of Nankervis it is suddenly a brilliant move, not sure if that was a calculated risk or just sheer fluke though haha.
- Signed Conca for two years (baffling decision, should have only been one)
- Signed Balme - obviously the best of the lot. Has only been around for a few weeks but feel like there is already a difference.
- Signed Caracella - Highly regarded from a successful club. Has had success everywhere really. Great get.
- Trade period overall - Been declared winners by everyone. I'm stoked. Brought in some good players <25 and while we sacrificed the first round this year, we have two first round picks in next years apparent super draft (to be used on two gun players or setting ourselves up for a gun trade like Fyfe maybe). Whether we are planning on hitting next years draft hard or going for Fyfe, either way we have really set ourselves up.
I have been really happy with almost everything that has happened this off season. Two first round picks next year means if the season goes belly up we have a lot of players to cut/trade and can go fairly hard at a super draft, we have made some astute signings and with the review we seem to have set up a system that should reap the rewards fairly soon.
There is still a bit to do (a few more coaches would be a great start) but I think we are moving in the right direction and have really set ourselves up for next year.
