I hear the penryns OC easier than their predecessors. But why the E8500 and not the E8400? You save some $$$ with a difference of less than 200 mhz.

Only $314 here for the Palit 3 phase power design with giant silent heatsink and fan, ramsinks for the memory and capacitors.. best bang for buck

That's a damn good price. Where are they based?

Because for my new system this is what I've come up with:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 Ghz 6MB Cache 1333 FSB LGA 775 - $259 (CPL)
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L - $123 (CNETTECH)
Transcend 2GB DDR2 800 Mhz PC6400 RAM - $45 (MSY)
ECS GeForce 8800GT 512MB 600Mhz DDR3 Dual DVI/HDTV PCI-Express - $355 (CNETTECH)
Western Digital HD 320 GB 7200 RPM 16Mb SATA 2 - $92 (CC)
Cooler Master RC-690 Case - $99 (Scorp Tech)
Cosair HX-520 520w PSU - $129 (PC Maniacs)

Total: $1102

I know I can get a cheaper 8800 GT, hmmm that might be the place. Even with shipping added it will come in cheaper.

Noble park, There's a phone number with that link

Evidently all the good silicon has been reserved for the E8500's if you want extreme overclocking, if you don't then E8400 is a no brainer

Thrawn. i'd watch out with tekcorp though. NOTORIOUS for saying stocks in and not having it... then taking ages for shipping and just being a pain and waste of time in general not returning emails etc.

Probably explains the cheap price.

Can't you just pick up anyway?

Thrawn, that will be a good build, but I suggest you try and get as many of the same parts from a minimum of suppliers. That way you can save as much on shipping with it bundled. Start with the cheapest price of the most expensive component (say the 8800GT) from www.shopbot.com.au and see if that place has all the parts you need, then go to the next supplier and do a price comparison for your parts list. It would be awesome if shopbot would do a full comparison of multiple parts including shipping costs to get the best price on a build!

When your paying shipping from lots of different places to get your gear, it can cost a bit where if you can get it all from one place with one shipping price you can save some dough. Also if you get your case from scorptec and you live in Melbourne you can pick it up because cases always have a fair bit of shipping cost.

I use StaticIce. Great site. I've done what you've suggested already, that's how I've come up with the prices. I had shipping in mind, that's why I'm going to pick these components up myself. The only thing that will possibly be shipped is the 8800GT (I might go via TekCorp), even with shipping charges included it's cheaper than the next best. IF not then I can just go to the Cnet tech store. ;)

Shipping won't be a problem because a couple of those places are pretty close where I live, and they are from stores where I can actually walk in and purchase the items myself (with the exception of PC Maniacs, who allow pick up anyways).

BTW, I live in Eltham.

It should if it's a reasonable PSU.

Get a name brand one like Antec and you'll be ok with 460W.
