Hello,

I'd like to ask, how do you think Adelaide's 2016 season is going compared to, say, the previous 5 seasons (so 2016 v 2015 v 2014 v 2013 v 2012 v 2011)? I guess you could compare as far back as you want, it wont matter as will become obvious below.

For me Adelaide 2016 is daylight ahead of 2015 and 2012 which I have about even and then more daylight back to 14, 13 and 11.

I'm not just basing this on ladder position, though that's important, but more about club overall performance. That's why 2016 easily trumps 2012, we did 2012 with a lot of players towards the end of their careers (Rutten, Stiffy, Porps, Dogga was still playing then I think) whereas this year we have a young team, an exciting lot of talent, a large margin to find our ceiling and should be able to be confident of being up the top of the ladder for a while (touchwood).

I might just briefly mention a couple of other key positives:
Off field staff and turnover. I have seen enough to be confident in the coaching and management and all staff really to know that we are in good hands. I thought we were stale and lacked ideas for a few years when we had the same people in spots for a long time but now after a few years of constantly new people and ideas and mentalites coming through the place we are well placed.

List turnover, recruitment and development. We have to be close to best in the league at this. We have some excitement in the team and still a fair bit in the two's. GWS wont be getting too many top draft picks in the future, they'll get the same as everyone else, will they be able to do what we do? As long as we can keep bringing in talent we have a good chance to keep up with (or be) the top of the comp.

For the first time ever, coming up soon, we may even be on the positive side of the ledger with father son leg up.

We are in the top 8, after WC next week we've played everyone else in the top 8 and not much of the bottom 8. After the bye we play 3 top 8 teams and 7 bottom eight. Meanwhile, lots of other top 8 teams will be duking it out with other top 8 teams. We are having a good season!

Overall I'm positive as f about the club. If you are positive about it and I don't expect everyone to be as positive as me, but can you please check the tone and sentiment of your posts. I don't come in here anymore as a result of the endless and unjustified negative stuff that's said.

By the way substantial numbers of people are posting, I'd estimate this is by a long way the worst year (most negative) since I've been on bigfooty.

Please spend a minute reflecting on where AFC is at and where your posting is at and if they're not aligned can you fix it up? It would make BF Adel a reasonable place to be again.

Thanks. :thumbsu:

Certainly some positive signs. We're currently 8th. The game at Subiaco in two weeks could see a huge change in how posters see our prospects. A win there would underline that we actually are better now than previous seasons.

What about a disappointing loss?

Before the season most people would have had us 4-6 after 10 rounds, 5-5 if optimistic. We're 6-4. Still a very long way to go.

At the start of the season I thought we'd beat North, Geelong, GWS and Gold Coast at the Round 10 mark. I thought the Richmond and Port games were 50/50 matches.

In actual fact we beat Sydney and Fremantle, one being surprisingly good and the other surprisingly bad. We lost to North and Geelong, both top 4 teams, and beat a surprisingly good GWS. The Hawks and Bulldogs games were always going to be really tough away.

Overall I'm pretty happy with where we're sitting compared to my pre-season predictions. We'd be going even better if we won some of those close matches

This is the first year since 2012 I go to games that used to be 50/50 reasonably confident of a win.

Enjoyable OP. :)

Like you, I'm feeling positive that Afc is heading the right direction on & off field after years of mediocrity.

The majority of of our players are yet to reach their best... Just need to get more above the 50 game mark for consistency.... Top up with some mid age talent... & some luck to give things a real shake as we have a strategically smart coach at the helm.

Also, get annoyed by some of the unnecessary negativity, which is ridiculous after great wins like last week against gws.

As I have got older & hopefully wiser, I have told myself to ignore people who are pure negative. I do it better in life than on this board though...

I'm glad you're pleased with how things are going, and there are certainly plenty of positives to enjoy right now

But it is outrageously conceited to think you have the right to tell people how to feel about things and how/what to post.
Though open minded folk might read it and recognise their negative Nellie is really being wasted and they are missing out on the fun by always seeing the negative side to everything. ;)

I'm just going to cut to the chase, don't pull this crap with me. I know you try to project yourself as the resident intellectual, but if you try to do this with me you'll get your ass handed to you on a platter everytime.

You two need to get a room.

I had to like this, not because i like the suggestion, but because I often feel like saying this to others when they're having a tif and since this is a thread about not being negative, I have to cop my serve

I think I see your problem...

Well to put things in perspective, in my first year on this board, we still had Neil Craig as coach.

Following that we had the Sando spike in 2012 followed by crashing to earth in 2013. Now the period from 2013/14 we're pretty dour. This just wasn't a fun place to be. There was this feeling of malaise which has settled in around here.

Ever since the start of 2015, I've felt more optimistic about where the club is heading and the board itself has also been a more positive place. Obviously 2015 was horrendous year for us off the field but these we're circumstances largely out of our control. We still finished 6th in 2015 which was an achievement worth being proud given the circumstances.

2016 has seen another tweak to our gameplan. Plenty to feel positive about but I really feel we are an elite midfielder or two short of contending.

Pretty happy with where we are at. Before the season we were roundly proclaimed to have the toughest draw. Port supporters were gleeful about their soft draw and our wrecking ball draw that was supposed to see us on the canvas.

Now we've come through the heavy sets and it's time to pick off some nice clean barrels. Time for us to get our turn feeding at the trough of percentage. And port supporters have changed their tune and are all like "yeah but we're only one game behind them". Good times.

Still not happy about coughing up the North and Hawthorn games though. Good experience for a young side I guess. Learning from veterans how to pinch games you don't deserve

Im very excited that we're heading in right direction.

MUST get more mid quality over offseason or we may miss our window.

I resent you for leaving patty.
I think we've actually got the quality mids to replace him. Matt showed a sneak peak yesterday, and we know his brother more than has the ability, just whether we can get him and keep him on the park!

I think it's fair to say the jury is very much out on that matter.

When I think about what stops us strongly contending right now and for the next few years midfield quality IS the big factor and is still unknown.

From a list perspective we must be seeking avenues to address this if Matt/Brad can't fill that void. Which is greater than a negligible risk for mine. It needs proactivity or we may be in a hole. we may not.. but the fact we may means we have to take some action.
