Note:

THE AFL has developed a father-daughter rule ahead of the upcoming Sign and Trade Period in the NAB AFL Women's Competition.

After the success of its inaugural year, the League outlined its rules for the 2018 season, with the creation of the father-daughter rule a key element.

The father must have played at least one AFL game for his club for it to have first access to his daughter at the women's draft, which will be held in mid-October to finalise list spots.

Chelsea Mitchell has signed on to Hawthorn’s VFL Women’s side.

Despite only having two seasons of football under her belt, the former professional gymnast has quickly taken to the game. After a season playing for her high school team in 2016, Mitchell was picked up by the Oakleigh Chargers in 2017 and managed five games in her debut TAC Cup season.

Mitchell comes from strong footballing pedigree. Her father, Barry, played 221 games over a 13-year career with Sydney, Collingwood and Carlton and won an All Australian selection in 1991. Her brother Tom was awarded his maiden All Australian guernsey in 2017.

Would be eligible for father-daughter status at both Collingwood and Carlton. (swans without an AFLW license)

The Dragons squad features the daughters of two prominent former AFL players in 15-year-old Alice Burke (ex-St Kilda star Nathan) and Abbie McKay (former Carlton defender Andrew).

McKay is in her second year in the program and Burke her first.

Hyett said Burke, a state under-age soccer representative, was a tenacious in-and-under player.

McKay, 17, is a utility likely to be used mostly at half back.

Abby was at the team license announcement for the AFLW in 2016 so we'll pick her up for sure if possible.

Another option is Chelsea Mitchell, sister of Tom Mitchell who recently signed up with the Hawthorn VFLW side, but if she gets good enough or wants to have a crack at AFLW within the next 5 years (because the hawks won't get an aflw license before then) she could come to Carlton or Collingwood as her father Barry Mitchell played for Sydney, Collingwood and Carlton: http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/news/2018-01-31/another-mitchell-to-the-fold

We could easily make her an offer for next season if she does well during the vflw season this winter.

Saw Macca and his daughter set of on a beach run last month, still in good nick. Smiles less than the Weiterbot.

He never smiles, he's a vet so he's used to killing dogs and cats now and again for work.
