potential mids?

How many potential top notch mids will we have in 2010.
Palmer,suban,hill. is all i can come up with.

Defender Broughton, who had his contract extended to the end of 2011 last September, is expected to vie for a role further up the ground this year.

I dont know what he means by 'further up the ground'.. pretty much anything is further up the field if he changes position.
How do you think he will go in the midfield?

Mundy, Johnson and Headland will all spend time on ball, maybe even Broughton. And one could argue that Sandilands acts as another midfielder at times also.

Re Crowley. Can you call an out and out tagger a true midfielder though? He does his job very well.

As for top notch midfielders... I'd say Hill, Morabito, Suban, Palmer and Walters have the potential to be some of the top players in the AFL. DeBoer, Ibbotson and maybe Crichton have also shown they can be very solid players even though I have lost hope a bit for Ibbo.
Hopefully Duffield can get some mid time also. He was very very good on that right wing in a couple games.

wow. Righting this has just made me realise that we would have to have the best midfield in the comp in a few years. Melbourne and North go alright also but if we have DeBoer and Crichton as taggers with Hill, Mora, Suban, Palmer, Walters, DuffMan and maybe Ibbo through the middle then our midfield will be phenomenal(providing most of them develop properly).

I'd be more concerned with GC and WS poaching Pav.
They already have the best young talent served up on a plate, unlike us at our inception, and they are more focused on "marque" players.

For the reasons that dizzy has already stated.
Our good depth in midfielders being developed.
And GB's natural quarter back talents.
If it aint broke then don't fix it.

Thanks for that Dizzy. I saw an example of that when i watched a small part of the Freo - Brizzy game earlier today. My thoughts was that his pace would be an issue for a midfield role in the AFL. Wasnt he a midfielder for Subi?

we're still lacking one inside mid with,good pace & kicking skills.we need a
hase type but way faster.a jedi around the ruck contests.

If you look at forwards, mids, backs and rucks, I am very sure that the midfield division is the last of our worries.

Palmer, Hill and Suban will be the type of players they'll be after. 20 years old, 40 games under their belt and ten years of footy left.

They'll look for 2 or 3 big names who are 25-26 but the rest of the guys they'll be targetting will be in their early 20's.

It depends on his skills. Three years ago he was a good kick and a fantastic kick for goal but has missed a lot of targets the last couple of years.

If he's getting 20 possessions at a good disposal % each week and kicking 15 goals a season while breaking even with the oppositions best player then yes, he'll be an elite midfielder.

I'm guessing these mid-fielders do about 12-15 klms/game?Bell,Buckly,Crawford,Harvey...Crowley can and will do that..and bite back.
Crowley's lucky,he doesn't have domingues in his managerial team

I wasn't speaking about you specifically but every time someone starts playing well consistently as a HBF/BP/HFF there are calls for them to be moved to the midfield.

He is never going to be the prime Centerman like Judd or Ablett now but he can be a very good one like Greg Tivendale or Joel Bowedon in the 2001 Richmond side. Not the main mids but very good ones considered for AA

I don't think they would turn him into a permanent midfielder, he just may spend time further upfield during matches. It's important to have as many players capable of this as possible, you don't want your team to fall asleep for 5 minutes because someones too tired or injured, you need guys to be able to cover the gap.
