poty - young player concept

Awaiting the beginning of the season I was thinking in addition to the poty voting we could also have a young player of the year component as well.

After nominating the top 5 for the game we nominate best young player for the game. Like the poty votes a winner would be declared each round and than tallied for the end of the year.

There are a few ways we could do this.

We could follow the NAB rising star rules which is under 21 at the start of the year and played less than 10 games before the commencement of the season.

or allow all players who will be under 23 when the season is completed

Eligible for the rising star would be

Daniel Currie
Tayor Gilchrist
Daniel Hannebery
Cambell Heath
Lewis Johnston
Brett Meredeth
Brendan Murphy
Mathew O'Dwyer
Jake Orreal
Daniel O'Keefe
Nick Smith
Kristen Thornton
Patrick Veszpremi


Eligible for the under 23 at the season end is all the above plus

Ed Barlow
Craig Bird
Ryan Brabazon
Kieran Jack
Mathew Laidlaw


If we were to make it under 23 before the season started you could also include

Jarred Moore
Heath Grundy
Tim Schmidt.

I'm happy to run it along with one or two others but POTY is South Swans baby I'm not going to steel it from him.

But as to which Version, my pref is for U23 at the end of the season but am happy to run with others.

Yep, i like that model, otherwise established players are in the mix, which makes it hard to judge.

will be great to get the young kids in as i pay quiet a lot of attention to them and feel they miss out sometimes coz we are more focussed on the older guys

You'll have to go with one of the U23 versions otherwise you may as well hand the award to Veszpremi now. I'd probably go the last one.
