General Bombers Talk Prediction of Round 1 team..

Not saying this is the team I'd select but I'd guess that we'll see:

B: DUSTIN FLETCHER TAYTE PEARS KYLE HARDINGHAM
HB: DYSON HEPPELL CALE HOOKER COURTENAY DEMPSEY
C: BRENT STANTON BEN HOWLETT JAKE MELKSHAM
HF: ANGUS MONFRIES JAKE CARLISE DAVID ZAHARAKIS
F: STEWART CRAMERI MICHAEL HURLEY PATRICK RYDER
R: DAVID HILLE JOBE WATSON HEATH HOCKING
I/C: NATHAN LOVETT-MURAY JASON WINDERLICH DAVID MYERS TRAVIS COYLER

With either NLM or Colyer as the sub.

Wow ... quoting oneself. Is that as bad as talking about yourself in the 3rd person?

No matter what we think of McVeigh and NLM the coaches love having them in the side and I can see why. It was an oversight of mine to leave spike out. Also reading that Winderlich pulled up sore from his game and wont play much at all in April I'll chang him over for McVeigh.

Also most have Hibberd in but I think his ball use in the game against Sydney was horrible so will be the last picked for the backline and seeing everyone is available I don't think he'll be in. Even if he's 5th in line as a small defender after Hardingham, Dempsey, Heppell and Myers he'll still play over 15 games this year.

B: DUSTIN FLETCHER TAYTE PEARS KYLE HARDINGHAM
HB: DYSON HEPPELL CALE HOOKER COURTENAY DEMPSEY
C: BRENT STANTON BEN HOWLETT DAVID ZAHARAKIS
HF: ANGUS MONFRIES JAKE CARLISE MARK MCVEIGH
F: STEWART CRAMERI MICHAEL HURLEY PATRICK RYDER
R: DAVID HILLE JOBE WATSON HEATH HOCKING
I/C: NATHAN LOVETT-MURAY JAKE MELKSHAM DAVID MYERS TRAVIS COYLER

That is the most physically strong side Essendon has played in a while. Hird definitely has a lot of respect for the way Sydney have gone about it for the last 7 years and we'll see a lot of players zoning around the ball and a kick away, lots of tackling and lots of long kicks to Hurley and resting ruck.

this is afl.coms version of our best 22

Would be surprised to see Dell'Olio in round one as his spot would be ahead of McVeigh or Jetta and I just can't see that happening at the moment.

B - Hardingham - Pears - Fletcher

HB - Hibbered - Hooker - Dempsey

C - Heppell - Hocking - Stanton

HF - Monfries - Hurley - Crameri

F - McVeigh - Hille - Colyer

R - Ryder - Watson - Melksham

I - Zaharkis - Myers - Jetta

S - Carlisle

Don't mind the idea of Carlisle as a hole-plugging sub rather than having an impact sub. A more pragmatic approach, surprised it wasn't done more often.

I think it wasn't done because we rarely had Hooker and Pears playing in the same game, Hurley carrying injuries and sometimes 3 ruckman.

Don't know that we can play all of Jake, Stewie, Hurls and Hille in the same forward line.. even worse when Gumby comes back and if they throw Belly into the mix..

Should use the extra tall as the sub... unless we are playing a team without many talls..

No point using a runner as a sub IMO..

Like in the finals.. dropped Hooker.. played Jake... Tayte went down early and I'm pretty sure our sub was a small.. can't recall though...

I meant more as a pan-competition sort of thing. It was typically a speedster/debutant.

Our best six defenders for this upcoming week did not play a collective 63 games last year. 72 if you include Myers in a best 7.

Let's hope we improve on that in 2012.

Fletch Pears McVeigh
Hibberd Hooker Dempsey
Heppell Hocking Stanton
Monfries Hurley Zaka
Crameri Ryder Jetta

Hille Watson Howlett

Melksham Myers Hardingham
Lonergan

Shame for Colyer he got injured - maybe Winders, Davey or Reimers come into contention???

Mate, well done.
I would have my 22 EXACTLY the same as that, except:

- Switch Watson and Hocking (Watto is a better centreman. He's the captain, the general and a good link up player. Hocko is very hard nosed and will plays a good tag/run with role position but that switch is much of a muchness. I just like seeing Watson in the guts.)

- Switch Melksham and Howlett (I am a big fan of Melksho, bulked up a lot and he is classier than Howlett and has better decision making. Should start on ball. Definitely use Howlett through the rotations though).

- Myers and Lonergran OUT for Carlise and Winderlich

agree with most of what you've said there theone5 esxcept I would like Lonergan in the side - i rate him highly and think he offers a fair bit with his ability to rotate through the mid-field. We'll find out soon cant wait for this game im going there for sure!

*facepalm*. Lonergan would be an unmitigated disaster as the sub. I'd say now:

Fletcher-Pears-Hibberd
Dempsey-Hooker-Myers
Stanton-Watson-Heppell
Monfries-Hurley-Crameri
McVeigh-Ryder-Jetta
Hille-Hocking-Zaharakis
Howlett-Melksham-Hardingham
Lovett-Murray

here goes

fletch pears spike
dempsey hooker hibberd
heppell watson stanton
zakka hurley monfries
crameri hille jetta
ryder hocking melksham
INT: myers hardingham howlett SUB reimers

really wanted to put sam lonergan as the sub, or even carlisle but we dont really have a crumber in the forward line besides jetta, and he may play back so reimers gives us something, also wouldnt mind seeing spike go forward if jetta goes back
