With the NBA season approaching faster than a cheetah with a burning firework up its arse it's that wonderful time of year where we can predict things that will look stupid in June.

I shall start:

Western Conference Champions: Sacremento Kings - lets be honest, but for a Robert Horry 'Hail Mary' and a collective off night from the charity stripe they'd have won it last year. They're settled, a year older and acquired an additional backup (maybe replacement) for the only player whose age is an issue.

Eastern Conference Champions: Indiana Pacers - deep and talented with a thoughtful Coach. O'Neal will be at his correct spot (power forward), Tinsley has been working at his shot but is, anyway, a good enough distributor to run the point. Reggie Miller is fading but with Artest and Harrington on board I think his regular season minutes will drop and he will be fresh for the play-offs. They have trade bait in the likes of Mercer, Bender and Croshere to improve further if need be.

NBA Champions: Kings (whoever comes out of the West will still win it, but we know that).

MVP: Tim Duncan - the help around him has improved and I think his numbers will be huge. TMac could push him assuming Hill stays healthy - which would allow him to concentrate on what he does best.

ROY: Caron Butler - in Miami's situation I think Pat Riley will go against his instincts and give him serious court time. Before to many years are out teams that left him on the board will feel the same as those who could have taken Paul Pierce.

Coach of the Year: Isiah Thomas - assuming my Eastern pick comes up.

Defensive MVP: Ben Wallace - Ben did enough work last year to earn this years award without playing:)

Most Improved Team: Indiana (I know, I'm sticking my neck out here) and the Wizards. Injuries allowing I reckon the Wiz will play more tha 82 games this season.

Most Improved Player: Tim Thomas - the Big Dog was not only a poison to the Bucks last year but he kept a player with more all round game stuck playing back up minutes. Tim has the talent and should want to tear things up.

Your turn......

Eastern Conference Champs - New Jersey Nets - they only got better in the offseason by losing Van Horn and getting one of the greatest defenders of all time. Kidd still runs the show and with K-Mart and Jefferson at the forward spots and the bigman patrolling the middle, they should win more games this season than they did last.

Western Conference Champs - Sacramento Kings - Should have done it last year, only got stronger with the addition of Keon Clark and look set to finally dethrone the Lakers. Tough ask though but it can be done.

NBA Champions - Sacramento Kings - whoever comes out of the west will win. The Kings are too strong at every position on the floor and there first four guys off the bench are Bobby Jackson, Hedo Turkoglu, Keon Clark and Scot Pollard. Deep is an understatement. Will sweep whoever comes out of the East.

MVP - Tracey McGrady - With Hill back and staying healthy, the Magic will win a tonne of games and allow T-Mac to stand out even further. The return of Hill wont damage his numbers either.

ROY - Caron Butler - With Zo down, Miami will lose a lot of games. Butler is there only option at SF and will get a tonne of minutes. Will win it from Ming/Gooden/Wagner.

Coach of the Year - Bill Cartwright - Bulls will surprise all and win 30+ games and in the East thats close to a playoff spot. Will be enough to earn coach of the year.

Defensive POTY - Ben Wallace - the only foregone conclusion in this bunch. Barring injury of course.

Most Improved Team - Atlanta Hawks - With Ratliff back and the Big Dog's arrival, playoffs should be a certainty. Terry, Reef and rookie Dickau give them some great options.

Most Improved Player - Darius Miles - this one is in his back pocket. His numbers will explode as the go to man in Cleveland. Wont really reflect how good he really is though but he will still win it.

Western Conference: The LA Lakers will defeat Sacremeto in a triple overtime game seven, thanks 50 points from the this year MVP, Kobe Bryant.

Eastern Conference: New Jersey Nets will destroy Boston 4-0.

NBA Champions: The LA Lakers will create history by winning their fourth straight NBA title, and Shaq will create history by winning his fourht straight Final MVP award, and shortly afterwards being rated the greatest centre of all time.

Most improved Team: Atlanta Hawks (Just to make my Wife Happy)

Eastern Conference Champs - New Jersey

Western Conference Champs - Lakers

NBA Champions - Lakers. Still a class above.

MVP - Jason Kidd

ROY - Drew Gooden

Coach of the Year - Alvin Gentry.

Defensive POTY - Gary Payton

Most Improved Team - Memphis - Pau and Battier will improve. Drew Gooden gives another big option in the post, and Mike D is back.

Most Improved Player - Andrei Kirilenko or Tim Thomas

My concern with the Nets is Mutumbo. His game fell away last year and many experts questioned whether his powers wer starting to fade. At 36 (he might even be older, he's not even sure) it is more likely to be a pattern than a blip. If he does slide then they have giving up some good scoring for him.

I think they made it last season because they peaked at the right time, and other teams seemed to fade.

Their forwards are good, but I'm not sure if they are the finished article yet.

I think New Jersey are doing the same as what Philly did just two years ago. Using Mutombo to try to steal a championship. Didnt work for Philly, probably wont work for NJ.
