Mod. Notice Prefixes for Video Games Board

As you may have noticed, there's now prefixes for threads over here on the VG Board.

This should help to make the place a lot easier to navigate by look and just make some little things easier when making a thread (not having to put Rumour or Platforms in the thread title, just use the prefixes instead).

Here are the prefixes for the Video Games Board and their colours in brackets:

PS3 = Purple/Dark Blue
360 = Green
PC = Yellow
Wii U = Light Blue
Multiplat = Dark Red
News = Brown
Rumour = Orange

Each prefix has it's own unique colour that will help to stand things out a bit more, each is an attempt to correspond with the subject matter in some way as well.

I've gone back and edited a few pages worth of threads with the relevant prefixes and will continue to go back further and edit what I can, when I can.

From now on, if you could use the relevant prefix for your thread when you start one that would be great.

i noticed these on the rugby league board a while back and thought it was a nice little addition.

the games board is definitely one it makes more sense to have it on as it helps to show exactly what relates to what easier for people who only want to read up on games which are to do with their specific platform etc...

imo the 360, ps3, rumour and news colors are nailed but the pc one looks too light blending in a bit with the background...maybe hot pink/fuschia?
multi-platform looks boring in red but i guess that's fine too lol

I'm not really a huge fan for change either tbh. But I think this one works for the better. Once every thread, or at least the vast majority get them it'll help with instant navigation. And for those who aren't necessarily caring for PS3/360/PC you can have an instant indicator that this isn't your subject.

That was the point with MP, it was meant to have that 'bland' formulaic sort of look as it's not one or the other, it's in between.

Agreed on the PC colour. I was thinking it's a little light myself.

Might try something of a darker grey with a slight hint of gold in there. Give it a bit more of a metallic look and still keep it different from the 'News' colour.

I'll put a change in and see if it looks better.

Thoughts? It's tough to get a distinctive colour for the Wii U as they don't really have anything definable. Nintendo is generally red, Wii is white with a hint of blue (for the most part) and the Wii U is going to be similar. Maybe something of a Teal or light blue? But would that clash with the PS3 colour?

I'm feeling the Wii U colour, but not much else tbh.

The thing I'd like to keep is relevance.

PS3 being red doesn't feel right to me. Sony and the PS brand is typically coupled with the Blue/Purple type colours, it's their colour brand. Much like MS and green. I think the colour choice works perfectly.

I feel the news being a gun metal grey gives the 'newspaper' ish type colour/theme. You know?

Will test out a Teal-ish colour for Wii U as well as a darker colour for PC. Hopefully to be ready by tonight.

The good thing is that the colours aren't set by the default set you see in these text boxes. There's a completely full array, so hopefully I'll be able to tweak them so they're all unique and individual but still keep the theme of the prefix.

Yeah, that one wasn't my choice. Default option I think from the overlords.

Will see what can be done.

New changes implemented.

Mod Announcement couldn't be changed, so Multi Platform goes to Black.

Wii U goes to teal, doesn't clash with PS3.

PC changed to a slightly yellow grey.

Thoughts guys?

(Just on the pink suggestions too, feel that would clash too much with 'Mod Announcement' as well seeing that, that one is more pink than red)

Then there's the problem of the rumours colour.

That's kind of the problem with colours not having to clash with backgrounds and other colours. You get so many potential one's to choose from, but they can clash so easily.

Will try and look for a solution.

I share this opinion, we're however in the minority here.

In saying that, they work well on the leagues and stories sub-board.

i like the idea of it but i think what's annoying me about it at the moment is that Multi Platform is by far the most used and it's also the longest and congests the page too much.

maybe shorten it to Multi-plat? or something along those lines to keep the prefixes closer to a streamline look?

Will test out a shortened Multi Platform title. Going for MP will make it too similar to Multiplayer I'd have to think though. So will see how Multiplat goes.

Have also gone for a dark-golden colour for PC. Nowhere near as grey or dark as the colour now, and distinctive enough to set it apart from the others.

Hopefully will be done by tonight.

Changes have been made.

Multi Platform --> Multiplat

And PC's Dark Yellow Grey --> Dark Gold.

From what I can see, nothing is clashing, and the shorter Multiplat brings it more in line with the other shorter Prefixes but still lets you know exactly what it is.
