This doesn't work for me as it also ends up replacing stuff in Line 560 which includes season history, then when i try to edit the rosters it will not work.
Any way to fix this? Can i tell notepad++ that i only want to search for stuff on line 8?

This is what I mean't by making sure that you have the exact amount of spaces that show up on line 8. Open a random players file and copy the year born line including all the spaces that come before <year>, as the number of spaces before <year> is different for the year line, it will make sure that the year born line is replaced (Line 8)

Yeah I've done that but it still picks up line 560 for some reason.

It generally makes the game pretty good, changes so much. At the start, the teams are far too bad and after about 10-15 years, they are far too good. :p Not complaining though.

You can pick up some real guns in the draft after a few years.

Your talking about the randomizer function of the program? I've been using it a few times, I've played around 5 seasons on one save and its pretty good seeing a new bunch of players being at the top, On one of the random lists, the best player was still Ablett rated 84 as a tagger. I also converted one of the random lists to PC2010 and it makes it a whole lot better because you don't only get midfielders getting high possessions but you see other positions perform well. Dangerfield as a small forward averaging 25 possessions and 3 goals a game.

As you can see both the same amount of spaces, but Notepad++ still wants to find line 560
 
I don't remember if it actaully happened to me, but from what I can remember I had no issues. I guess its because there are more spaces on the season line. Anyway, just replace the ages and then change the season years. Its only going to change a few like 1993 and 1994. The only player who played back then was Dustin Fletcher so all you need to do is change his file years back to how it was.

Nope, i've tried everything. It just gets stuck some time after i edit the year 1985-1988
I open up the editor in game and it will just say some player's name like "Loading....... Tom Williams" then it will get stuck and just not load the database.

I've replaced Fletcher's xml contents, tried to look at the players and replace their files when the game freezes at them and no luck.
Nevermind.

Try changing the ages one by one and each time loading the editor to see where the errors occur. Should help.

A new AFL manager is set to come out next year, there aren't many details yet but it doesn't sound like it is being made by Ad, but hopefully we do get something.

I know you get a few errors if you have too many people at one age. I remember making everyone 18 years old and when you progress in the first year, you get an error just before the first game of the actaul season. From the way your changing the ages, you will have players who were born in 1988 go down to 1986 and then down to 1984 and so on, so everyone will be the same age.

I just had that happen when i did a try. Everyone on my list was 30-31 years except my rookies who were 18 haha

That's what i've been doing!
I start at 1975 and lower their ages by 2 years every time i go up.
1975 = 1973
1976 = 1974

ETC

but when i get to 1988 = 1986 then thats when the error happens.
