Now before people come out screaming that we can't change the game blah blah: This is not a proposed rule change, just simply an idea that could be useful to clubs in the pre season competition.

Why don't they dispense with the runner and allow the coach to speak directly to the players using radio signals. Every day I drive to work following this van that sells sports radios that are designed to not inhibit at all. Most players run around with tracking devices on them now days anyway so I'm sure that there could be a way for players to have a radio ear piece. Coaches could then speak to the players at all times through the game.

I figure that the pre season is a useful time for the clubs (new players, new coaches, new tactics) this could be a good way to enhance the learning process.

Thoughts?

A good idea, but it would be another thing to disadvantage the poorer clubs.

I can imagine a preseason game between Collingwood and Melbourne where the Pies players all have the latest radio technology and the Dees players each have a tin can on a string.
