Printers

I'm buying a new printer on the weekend and I was wondering if anyone had some recomendations? Which is better inkjet or laser? I have about $400 to spend and no idea what sort of printer I want (except that I want one that does a decent job printing out photo's) so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Laser is miles ahead.

But, you aren't going to get anything that'll do colour for $400.

Epsons and HP's are pretty good.

If you want photo quality prints, get a Canon S820. They're around $650 each though.

HP Laserjet's are the best ive seen in action, worth every cent

You'll have to decide whether you REALLY want to print photos.

I got a laser (a samsung 1210?? or something. fabulous cheap laser - about $450) because:

1) 99% of the time, I'm printing documentation or drafts of stuff - so colour is not a priority.
2) speed. a laser will generally chew through 5-8 pages while an inkjet is still on the first.
3) quality for text is a lot better on a laser.

If you want to do photos though, forget the laser (unless you want to spend thousands of dollars on a colour laser printer) and get an inkjet.

Agree with Des, spot on. For non-color, lasers are the best.

For $400 you should be able to get an inkjet that'll do a good job printing photos. Things to remember are: cost of photo paper, cost of a photo cartridge, and the cost of the ordinary cartridges. The last HP printer I bought was cheaper than the cost of the two cartridges that came with it.

canon individual ink s520 and s750 models

cant recommend hp as for cartridge prices and they also have 2 printers exactly the same with an $80 price difference.

any printers under $150 are kids toys or not worth the trouble

best laser 1230 brother or 1440 brother( black & white only.

Mighty Mick where do you work? Sounds the same best selling printers as at my work, except we sell plenty of Canon LBP-1120's for the low end laser market..!

no dont sell 1120s u must get commission apparently we sell our stock for the love of the job
