woj is in for hunt
and lonergan then on bench as cover for back/forward

why didn't they trade tenace, as this leaves varcoe and co out of team
long list

Not much has been said about his ordinary game last week.
To me, he looked slow and uncommitted, his disposal not as clean as usual. Perhaps we are overrating his Vfl form. Thoughts?

Wasn't on his Pat Malone.

Forgive.

Will be better for having better mids around him.

so, he needs better players around him to play better?

we have shannon byrnes for that.

No, it's just hard for an inexperienced player to play well in a side playing badly. Selwood is the obvious exception but he is a 1 in 1,000 player.

Shannon has no such excuse. He's been in the system for what, 5 or 6 years? It's purely his skills and decision making that let him down and having better players around him won't (and hasn't) helped.

There are too many young guys with talent to perservere with Byrnes. He can't kick goals, only has one side of the body, and poor decision making under pressure. I ranked him 22 out of the GF team.

i think prismal is overrated but prefer him over byrnes, regardless of what supposed role it is that byrnes plays. i am yet to see byrnes do anything the family dog cant do!!!

back to prismal, he would have stood out if he stood up on the weekend, especially with the saints depleted midfield. perfect opportunity.

No doubt he had a bad game. I don't think it was indicative of what he has to offer more generally.

Tend to agree that he's somewhat overrated by some on here, and I'm not sure he's shown enough to edge Byrnes out at the moment.

Played a few good games at senior level, early last year against Melbourne from memory was a cracker, but as you point out Saturday was a perfect opportunity for him to put himself forward for a berth in round one and he simply failed to do so.

As another poster said he wasn't alone in that regard, but you'd think someone fighting for a spot would be busting a gut in these games and that didn't appear the case with him.

Looking at it from a wider perspective I'm wondering if our supposed great depth isn't somewhat Illusionary, when Egan returns that gives us twenty one walk up starters IMO, twenty two "if" Hawkins can hold down the full forward spot, but there's not a lot after that if we cop a few injuries.

Byrnes would arguably be the next cab off the rank probably, with David Johnson, at least in terms of experience at senior level, behind him, then there's a long list of players who may have potential but have hardly played any senior footy or are yet to prove themselves, e.g. Varcoe, Prismall, Tenace, Gamble, Davenport, West, Djerrkura, Lonergan etc.

One or more of those may quite well turn out to be very good players, but as of now I wouldn't say it's guaranteed with any of them.

There's no doubt we lost a lot of depth when King, Gardiner and Callan left but still if Mooney, Scarlett and Ottens stay fit we can cover anything else pretty easily. Those three are irreplaceable though.
