For what it’s worth I don’t think the 2004 flag is the main reason for him not supporting the PBs as much as you’d expect, his Collingwood connections could be a reason but I’m doubtful of that, it’s just it’s frustrating to see the Williams family treat the jumper (and the club) as a family heirloom that they can dictate. Fos Williams stands head and shoulders above everyone at Port Adelaide, but no individual is bigger than the club, and the jumper predates his Port career by 48 years. The level of entitlement here is annoying to see.
He's allowed an opinion for goodness sake. And perhaps his involvement in both clubs means he is more qualified to understand the Port Adelaide viewpoint on tradition and the Collingwood viewpoint of the sancticity of their jumper.

I apologise for the misquote, but he still didn't favour the full time use of the bars which is very interesting. And yes, while officially they have only been petitioning for irregular use, many on this board have petitioned for them to be worn every game.

But whether he is trying to further his legacy or not doesn't mean his opinion isn't valid, if he feels a greater connection to the teal because he won a premiership in 2004, then so be it.
All good - I apologise if it came across as a dig at you, by the way, it wasn't meant to be. Just a lot of people especially media misquoting what he said.

Without being biased but I do believe that Port will be allowed, in the next few years, to wear their Prison Bars as their home kit and to alleviate the situation we'll always play Collingwood away.
Why don’t Port put a teal pin stripe in the prison bar and roll with that

Choco also said that he doesn't like the term Prison Bars because he never once heard Fos call them that
This would be true right? Since "Prison bars" was a demeaning nickname from Norwood supporters IIRC?

Correct. Fos would have never used the term, but it was well entrenched in supporter vernacular when Choco returned to play for Port in the early 90s. He almost certainly would have heard it then.

Legit just changed our logo this year and it has teal in it...
With Port there is a need to carefully balance port as an afl team and port as a sanfl team. Its not an easy equation to work out. I don't think they are doing a bad job at it currently. I would like to see the Pb atleast once a year and would like the lightning bottle more often, even if it is more of a clash/alternate kit.

I am curious as what logo they will use next year, with the current one being used only meant as an anniversary logo.

Port ignoring their teal history is pretty disrespectful, tbh. Not only that, but their 2004 lightning premiership guersney is a far better jumper anyways. They should be going back to that.
Welcome to the best board on BF.

I dont think Port are looking to ignore their teal history and I for one wouldnt be happy if they did ignore teal in the future. The wharf pylons or prison bars design are a very major part of Ports history and a pretty mean looking guernsey.
In the future I would be happy with PBs as a home and the teal chevrons from a few years ago as a clash to be worn away against Carlton, Freo, Collingwood etc

I'm sure Port planned to keep the logo they currently have and use it for both their AFL and SANFL teams going forward.

I'm pretty sure there is a thread for all this Port talk, but the Bars will never become an AFL fixture.

Based purely off when they wore the Bars against the Crows my girlfriend who is a AFL fan asked if the Pies were playing and then my house mate who knows absolutely nothing about AFL asked who Collingwood were playing.

Collingwood have a right to protect their brand as they were in the AFL first, Port have and will stay adapted in the top flight and can do as they please in the SANFL.

Likewise if Glenelg came into the AFL they would have to change their kit and if Richmond left the AFL and went into the SANFL they would have to do the same.

So because your mates girlfriends pet dogs first owners sister mistook Port for Collingwood, you think it will never happen.

Port aren't trying to pinch Collingwood's brand.

When they released the 150 year logo they stared that it was just for this season, and I’m pretty sure it was either suggested or stated that they would return to the logos they used in 2019. I expect they will use this years logo as a basis for the new club logo as the storm did a couple of years ago; even though this would go against the statements/suggestions that were made by port at the end of last year)

Surely they stick with this logo. It’s so much better than anything they’ve had and it’s one of the best in the league.

I'll inform the club of your girlfriend's remarks and we'll have the campaign shut down immediately. Thanks for chiming in with that, what fools we were before this anecdote made everything clear.

Haha, I should have seen this coming.

All I am saying is Collingwood's main and only real argument against is that it's a clash of their established brand.

Agree or not with their stance and whether you should be allowed the Bars in the top flight, in my personal experience I've had two non-footy jumper, non AFL (one with an interest in the game) mistake the Bars jumper for Collingwood.

Which is exactly why the Bars won't happen (in my opinion)

For the record I would love to see the Bars full time - it's a cracking kit
But I can definitely see Colingwood's issue from a brand perspective and why it's highly unlikely to eventuate.

I was watching Man United vs Arsenal and thought I was watching Liverpool, then all 3 clubs died due to all the confusion.

TheLoungeLizard makes a reasonable point. For those familiar with legal jargon, the "reasonable person" test would be applied. ie. would a reasonable person think Port Adelaide in prison bars confuse them for Collingwood. It is not a "footy fan" test. I'd love to see Port wear the prison bars more often because it is a significant part of their history however its a really easy argument for Collingwood and examples such as those from TheLoungeLizard are why.

I'm a huge moron who lives by first impressions and if I can't immediately discern one thing from another I get so confused I do a big shit in my pants.
