These days we here all the publicity centred around EA Sports and its FIFA series, but I personally prefer Pro Evolution Soccer which is made by Konami. Has anyone else played it? It is clearly the best soccer game in terms of gameplay, FIFA is always endeavouring to outdo PES in this department, but never does. Granted the graphics arent as good in PES, but it is made up for.

The only other drawback in PES is the lack of licensing. Many of the names require editing, but, after a few hours of editing, the game is fine and clearly the yardstick.

Has anyone else played it? What do you guys think?

Ahhh, the annual Pro Evolution thread.

Good to see the game is still alive and kicking. PES4 looks sensational, shame it's all about dosh these days and Fifa have the rights :(

Still, patches and the like are always obtainable to play with your favourite English/Spanish stars.

I have played Pro Evolution Soccer 3 myself and I think it is the best soccer game out like in the game anything is possible. But in fifa allways come up to the box then shot too boring!.

Pro Evolution Soccer 3 better than Fifa :)

Yeah, I usually play with Spanish or German commentary.

Best. Game. Ever. Still playing it on a regular basis.

The great news is Winning Eleven 8 (the Japanese version of PES 4) came out on Friday, so we will be getting PES 4 in a month or so.

A mate of mine got WE8 flown over and has been playing it, reckons it's UNBELIEVABLE.

Just some of the awesome things he was telling me about:
- Can have 2 players over the ball for a free kick
- When a player gets subbed after a good game he claps the crowd, after a bad game he kicks the water bottle in disgust.
- Can score a goal, go off celebrating, only to have it called back for offside (this is bound to drive your mates nuts)
- Players look more realistic, through balls much better
- Max Vieri and Tim Cahill are in the Australian squads!

I'm hoping to play it Saturday night, but I'm buying PES4 the moment it comes out!

does anyone have a release date for PES 4

and with the winning eleven games, are they just the exact same games as the PES series except the japanese version

can someone plz clarify that for me cos i get confused

Pro Evolution Soccer = The god of all football games.

It destroys FIFA in every way.
Get PES4 on PC, so you can download patches and add official kits, rosters and lower division teams.

Did you play it? If yes, what's it like mate?

Yeah, I played it Saturday night - it's nothing short of phenomenal. I cannot state enough how great it was - the gameplay is spot on.

Graphics are slightly sharper than PES 3, no real improvement, although the players look a lot more realistic. Kits are better as well, and stacks more teams to choose from.

The tackling is much better and more realistic. The most impressive thing for mine was the running by players off the ball. Much better, and some of the through balls you can do are exquisite. As Australia I had Bresciano hit a long through ball - Viduka ran onto and first time hit it beneath the ongoing keeper.

The new free kick system is great fun, and there is more curve on shots in the open play as well.

Just little touches as well - when you do a nasty foul the ref blows his whistle several times, just like in real life. Players will scuffle with each other. The amount of stoppage time is put up on the screen. The radar works better.

You can swap players straight away, and there are heaps of things to buy in the shop (including 6 star difficulty!). Can also create players, including choosing their celebration (my personal favourite is the machine gun or the Obe Martins backflips).

You can also play a full season with some of the leagues (ie Serie A) and in the Master League players retire due to old age or injuries.

The only fault I could find with it was occasional slowdown during corners, but it's not a major thing at all. Make sure you get it the moment it comes out in Australia!
