Just a little heads-up for anyone with a PS2.

If you like soccer and you haven't played Pro Evolution Soccer yet, GO AND DO IT NOW.

Forget FIFA - once you play a couple of games of Pro Evolution, you'll never be able to play FIFA again.

It's easily the best soccer game (and perhaps sports game) ever made.

Anything you can do in real soccer can be done in this game. It feels like soccer, unlike FIFA, which by the way, is a great game, but a pathetic soccer game when you put it next to Pro Evolution.

Don't even rent it - just buy it.

Trust me. :)

cheers

I hear you Gphonque....

I wanted to get a soccer game a few weeks back but wasn't sure about FIFA2002...so I checked a number of games sites and without doubt Pro Evolution Soccer absolutely s**ts all over FIFA. The gameplay (I've read) is what sets it apart, it's a real soccer sim, and FIFA is very poor in comparison. Supposedly, a
nil all match is just as enjoyable as a 3-2 heartstopper on PES. It's certainly is a game that you'll still be playing years down the track.

Anyway, I haven't been able to find it anywhere yet, so I might have to buy it over the Net. Thanks for the advice ghonque, now I definitely have no doubts in my mind :)

hey no problem.

I've been playing it the past few weeks with a few mates. The sign of a good soccer game is one where you can play longer games. :)

We played 2 games last night, both 15 minute games (which is a longer 15 mins than FIFA as the clock stops when you get a free kick etc, whilst a free kick in FIFA can take up 3 or 4 "minutes"), and both ended 0-0 after extra time. The beautiful thing though, is that we both had plenty of chances but just couldn't put it in the back of the net. :)

Another thing that makes the game so much more rewarding are the replays. You get replays during the game of close shots, or fouls etc, and then at the end of each half, you get a little replay package which is awesome! :) You get to sit back and watch all the highlights from the half you just played. It's very cool. And the fact that the gameplay is so super realistic, you get some fantastic "moments."

There's just so many ways to score as well. Unlike FIFA where it was either run down the side, cross, and score a lucky header, or run through the defence and beat the goalie one on one. In Pro Evo, no two goals are ever the same. :)

cheers

Also, the main things in my opinion that make it so good are:

* Players bump into each other. Meaning that you can win the ball purely by getting into the right position. No need to press a "tackle button." (although you still have your slide tackle button)

* The ball bounces around. You can "feel" the ball bounce around when you play this game. Different players have different "first touch" abilities etc. If you're sprinting, you actually push the ball out in front of you - unlike FIFA where the ball seemed stuck to your foot. You have to be careful when sprinting as well. You can't play this game like you play FIFA. If your sprinting towards your goalie (say you're chasing after a long ball by the opposition) and you try to kick it back over your head (like we all do in FIFA), you'll either have a fresh air shot (remember you push the ball out in front of you when you sprint) or you'll kick it straight over your goalies head. :)

* The ball will bounce off the players. So rather than just constantly trying to tackle the opposition forwards when in defence, you can actually "fill the gaps" in the defence - block the shots at goal by putting your player in the way of the shot. This alone opens up the game so much in terms of ways to score.

* The player data (player attributes etc) are based on the Championship Manager database! The players in this game play like their real life counterparts. (even though some of their names aren't quite the same. They don't have the full license like FIFA do, but i couldn't particularly give a toss about that.)

There's just so much detail in this game. I still notice little things every time i play it that make it so much better than any other soccer game, and i've been playing it flat out for the past month or so.

The only bad thing is that the commentary is pretty average. (and a bit repetitive).

But we fixed that by putting the French commentary on. :) It makes it even more realistic. :)

Not sure. It is around though.

If you can't find it in any shops, you'd be able to get it off the net. Some UK sites would have it. It will cost a bit more, but it's worth it.

I'll have a look around, (both shops and net) and if i can find it anywhere, i'll post it here.

cheers

gPhonque,

Thanks. I have checked a couple of shops, and also on the official playstation site, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

gPhonque,

Lets put it this way... this morning I went and traded in FIFA 2002 and also UEFA Champions League soccer as there's no point keeping them when Pro Evolution is by far the best soccer game I've ever played!! I just cant believe how realistic it is!! But I'm not telling you anything you dont already know!! ;);)

As for where I got it, I had this guy ring someone to get it especially in for me as I couldn't find it anywhere. :)

Will this baby be coming out on x-box??

Not sure. Not in the immediate future as far as i know.

It's a Konami game, and Konami are still (as far as i know) going ahead with Metal Gear Solid X - the Xbox version of MGS2.

So there may be a possibility that they'll bring Pro Evo, or maybe "Pro Evo 2" to Xbox at some point.

Just a guess.

Damn ... i wanna play this damn game!!

Stop doing this ... i'll be tempted to go out and buy a PS2 tomorrow!!!

:D

They had this game in Electronics Boutique in Garden City Perth. I was interested but the price was a bit hefty for me $109. Cos I just got the PSX2 yesterday I could only really afford one game so bought Grand Theft Auto 3 (this game rocks).

What other games would you suggest are good value, ie keep u interested for more than a couple of hours.

If you like a good soccer game, or you're a soccer nut, then you're crazy if you don't go and buy that game NOW.

Right SeinDude? ;)

For anyone else interested in finding it, i also tried an EB today. (Chadstone) They didn't have it, but they told me they do get it occasionally, but you'd have to be quick to get one before they all go.

So try EB stores.

He also told me they take orders for it, but you'd most likely have to wait a while until they're able to get it.

cheers

gPhonque,

In my opinion, once you've played such an awesome game as Pro Evolution Soccer on PS2, any other soccer game you have you may as well use them as a coaster or plate or something!! :):)

"Once you've played the best, you dont need to play the rest!!" ;)

Cheers!! :)

Well I actually went and bought this game today at Myer's. Still trying to get used to the controls. It's a pretty kewl game, but have to say I prefer Grand Theft Auto 3. Iv'e blown my budget for games for about 3 months I think :)
