I just got this question and I reckon its bloody tough... I was wondering if anyone on BF could do it?

Alice: Did you hear about the penalty shootout between Turkey and Spain?
Bob: I heard only that Turkey shot first. What was the score? Who won?
Alice: The score was interesting. If I told you the score, you could tell me who won.
Bob: Well, then I know who won without even knowing the score!

Q: Which team won?

Trying to work this one out.

Although it shouldn't be too hard. In any soccer game, I can tell you what the score's going to be before it even starts.

I'm a little confused about this statement. Can you please elaborate?

Here is a problem solving question that is actually possible :D

MAN CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE

There is a man called Joffa. He has been in Jail for 20 years, and the Security Guards have aloud him to an option. The option is - Stay in Jail for the rest of your life, or risk a life or death decission. Joffa is a die-hard Magpie fan, and he can't see himself staying in Jail without going to see his Beloved Pies play again.

There are 3 men in the Jail room, plus two doors. One door is a door to FREEDOME, the other is the door to DEATH. However, Joffa does not know which door leads to Freedome, and which door leads to death. The Security Guards have aloud Joffa to ask either of them 1 question to find out which is the door to Freedome. The only problem is, is that one of the Guards always LIES and the other Guard always tells the TRUTH

However, Joffa does not know what Guard is the Liar, or the Truth teller. So here is Joffa's position.

Security Guard
Door

JOFFA

Security Guard
Door

Joffa does not know which Guard is the truth teller, and which door is the door to Freedome.
What Question does Joffa ask to reveal the door to Freedome?

Quite simple. Before the game starts, the score will always be 0-0. ;) ;)

Turkey 1 1 1 0 0

Spain 5-3

Therefore it is not 5-3.
This is bloody hard.

You're wrong. Spain would not take their 5th kick in your second example, cos they would have already won, meaning they would win 4-3 and not 5-3.

Turkey could win 4-3:

Turkey 1 1 1 1 0
Spain 1 1 1 0 0

So the answer is: Turkey 5-3.

I think. Maybe ...

I know this one. The question is "Which way would your companion say is the Door to Freedom?"
If he asked it to the guard who tells the truth, that guard would say that the lying guard would point to the other door, and therefore Joffa would choose the correct door.
If he asked it to the lying guard, that guard would lie and say that the truthful guard would point to the other door, and therefore Joffa would choose the correct door.

You're wrong too.

Spain could win 3-1:

Turkey 1 0 0 0
Spain 1 1 1

or Turkey could win 4-1:

Turkey 1 1 1 1
Spain 1 0 0

There are a number of different combinations that if given the final score, and with the knowledge that Turkey have had first shot, to work out who must be the winner. BUT, Bob doesn't know the final score, so it would be impossible to know which combination is in fact the final score, and therefore impossible to know who the winner is.

There's no scoreline in favour of the team kicking second which can't be achieved by the team kicking first.

However, winning 5-3 and 4-1 are impossible to do when shooting second - so if you hear these scorelines from a penalty shoot-out, you automatically know the team kicking first won ... which in this case, is Turkey.

Haha, yep... that's it. Makes perfect sense.

Meanwhile it took me an hour of brain-wracking and consultation with resident soccer nut to get to that conclusion :o Damn you ;)

Hats off!

A hunter walks out the door of his hut to try to hunt a bear. He walks 1km south, but can't find a bear.
He walks 1km east, but there's still no sighting of any bear.
Then he walks 1km north, and then he finds a bear - right at the door of his hut.
What colour was the bear?
