Problems with my Monitor

my monitor changes "contrast" by itself, the screen suddenly becomes very dim, after a while it changes back to normal, does anyone know what is wrong with my monitor?
Would it be a video card problem or a problem of the monitor?

Could be either, though I'm swinging towards the monitor. Have you got a spare one around that you could plug in to try for a while, see if you can narrow down the problem?

Yeah my crappy old Mitsubishi 1770H does this sometimes, maybe once every couple of weeks. Its no big problem as far as I'm concerned. It would most likely be to do with the monitor no longer memorizing the settings....
