Having just joined the 21st century and bought a PS2, I'm having some problems with the DVD component. I got a couple of disks with the black slab, some play fine but others have a terrible flicker between light and dark, perfect vision to worse than dodgy VCR. All the games I have are no worries, and some movies are fine also. Tried taking the VCR out of the loop, this fixed the problem with the bad DVDs. Doing a bit of research on the net it seems that some disks copy protection is incompatible with a VCR in the loop.
Does this sound right, and is there a way to determine before purchase/renting if a disk has said copy protection? Not as good without the big noise through the stereo.
FWIW - Bad ones - Big Fat Greek Wedding, Midnight Oil 20000 Watts
Good ones - Blackadder, Crocodile Hunter movie
Cheers
