And STILL none of you have played Jet Set Radio Future!?!?

Then again - none of you guys experienced the pure gaming bliss of the Dreamcast either so i shouldn't really expect any better.... :(

gPhonque, I've played Jet Set Radio Future, liked it a fair bit but didn't really get into it that much as I only hired it overnight and ended up not having the time to play it much.
topdon, good avatar, was going to actually use the exact same one. Guess i was to late:eek: :)

gPhonque, I've got a dreamcast but the only game that gets a run these days is Virtua Tennis and sometimes Daytona USA 2001.

Oh, and apparantly Daytona 2003 is a GC exclusive:D

Anyway me being a Star Wars nut, the GC is my thing with The Clone Wars (unofficial sequal to Rogue Leader), Bounty Hunter and RL on it with Jedi Knight 2 to come.

Other than that though, many great shooters coming to the GC with Die Hard Vandetta (exclusive), Metroid Prime (exclusive, supposedly rivals Halo), Turok, Perfect Dark 0, Time Splitters 2 and of course Jedi Knight 2 which is personally my fav (PC version rules!).

And of course Pro Evo 2002 which has reached incredible levels of hype on this forum thanks to gPhonque.

I spose these shooters will be great games for my 5 year old neighbour to play???

Well, you said it. It's cheaper!!!

What does that mean normally? Allthough, my opinion is based on alot more than that.

Just face it.... The Gamecube is not even in the same class as the PS2 or XBOX !!!
The Game cube has crap hardware, and s*** developers.

Mate, you have made a big fool of yourself. Go back too your kiddies machine and rub the beutifull colours in which it comes!

The Hardware is better, The developers have more to work with and Microsoft has many great developers on their books. Wait and see. Don't get me wrong, the PS2 will also be a extremely successfull console. It already is.

I expected better from you Bluey! your comments are very bias.

When I said cheaper I didn't mean cheaper in quality, just price. The GC doesn't have a DVD player which saves money in hardware and royalties, and is relatively cheap to produce so they can afford to reduce the price.

Microsoft and Sony have decided to include DVD players in their machine, the Xbox a hard drive etc etc and all these things add up to the price difference.

If you want to go by the hardware then the Xbox and GC will be ahead of the PS2. Bad developers? man, you're just making up stuff now.

Mate, if you look back I was never the one who made the connection between Atari and Xbox. Have a look.

I think you have made the fool of yourself. You are obviously ignorant to the fact that the GameCube isn't a 'kiddies' machine but is targetted towards adults as well.

I am not disputing the fact that kids are part of Nintendo's target market (as they are for PS2 and Xbox as well to certain extents), but Adults are too.

Anyway, it is your loss if you miss out on the great games that the GameCube has to offer.

Also, a quote from Nintendo.com.au:
All gamers are catered for - with special attention given to developing games for mature gamer

Nintendo could probably survive just going for the young market but they are concentrating a large % of their efforts on the older market.

Cheers.

Mate..... Face it! Gamecube's are sooo left behind! Like the N64, it was a failure! The Gamecube can't be even compared to the other machines. It is a flop! and you will see this with time.

CarterS.... Please dont get me wrong. I do not have a problem with Nintendo. I have also owned a super nitendo(SNES), this machine was great, proved that Nintendo plus their developers had what it takes. I preferred the SNES over the Sega Megadrive! but the Megadrive was also a very successfull console.

What I'm saying here is one; I respect Nintendo, and two, that there can easily be more than one successfull console. Bagging the xbox is going to be a mistake. This machine has now got many proven great developers whom are at work now as we speak. The PS2 will(some would say 'is') be named a success, and so will be the Microsoft Xbox.

But the sad thing is, that Nintendo is going to have another loss! and I really hope they can come out alive from this one. The Gamecube will be a big flop just like the N64!!!

Cheers!;)

IMHO consoles are a thing of the past. Save up and buy a decent PC or some new games.
The thing is PC's can be upgraded and they also have the biggest range of games they can also play DVDs and do a crap load of things no console will ever be able to do without becoming a PC in a box really.
If anyone reads PCPowerplay there is a huge article (maybe a letter) in it about PCs v Consoles and no matter how you look at it PCs always come off better.

Having said that, if your one of those "1337" gamers or just a spoiled rich kid :) and you "must have" a console I suggest getting the Xbox for now anyways.
PS3 is going to be out sometime next year, supposedly with 1000x more powerful specs and since it's almost July buying a PS2 now would seem a waste of money.
Then again Microsoft has been in court over anti trust issues for years and years and apparently if you have the Xbox hooked up to the net they or anyone I guess can control what you watch on your TV. It's not much of a big deal but people already control what we can watch do we really need someone choosing what we do watch?
I'm not sure if the Xbox's internet feature is included or if it comes as an addon or for that matter if the addon is even released in Australia but it can be done so don't gripe. ;)

What rubbish.

Console gaming is completely different to PC gaming. Unless all you want to play is the same ****ing RTS, FPS & lame EA "Sports" games over and over again each year and buggy ports of the occasional console hit, then consoles are a much better choice.

REAL console gaming (ie. Jap games) still very much have an "insert coin" mentality - something sadly lacking on PC's, and even the majority of non-Jap console games these days.

When was the last time you played a 2D shooter on your PC?

Did you own a Dreamcast?

No. I didn't think so.

If you never owned a Dreamcast, then how the **** can you tell anybody that consoles don't compete with PC's? The DC was the most perfect gaming machine of all time - basically an arcade in my lounge room.

I've got a 17inch flat screen PC monitor, and nothing compares with laying back in my beanbag and playing my DC/Xbox/PS2/Saturn/SNES through my Sony flatscreen tv.

Hey - if you're idea of a "game" is one in which you use a mouse and keyboard and then attempt to mimick real life, then good luck to you. I personally like something with a bit of style; something unique. Something i haven't played or done before.

Like driven a Ferrari.

Or skated/jumped about Tokyo on magnetic inline skates spraying graffiti.

Or rolled around inside a ball as a monkey.

Or danced my way through space freeing hypnotized humans from the wrath of the evil Space Channel 5 television director.

Or floated through a wireframe cyberspace killing computer viruses to the beat of THE most awesome trance music, whilst getting Tetsuya Miziguchi's version of the evolution of this planet and humans at the same time.

etc etc.

Most of all, i love the simplicity of consoles. No ****ing hardware problems; no Windows telling you it can't do that for whatever reason; no squinting my eyes trying to see on my crappy small (next to my tv) pc monitor; no crashes; lots of comfort; lots of funky controllers; and lots of crazy Jap games to which i also buy the soundtracks a lot of the time.

PC's are better?

Well, if you've forgotten what games are supposed to be, then yes.

It's all personal opinion, but to say that consoles are a thing of the past is pretty naive considering the console gaming industry itself is now almost as big as the movie industry.

Oh, and what else did you expect "PCPowerplay" would tell you? lol

gPhonque, Games are supposed to be an escape from reality and it is a primitive argument if you think that sports games and FPS' don't serve that purpose.

If anyone reads PCPowerplay there is a huge article (maybe a letter) in it about PCs v Consoles and no matter how you look at it PCs always come off better.

Basic, if you see an article in PCPoweplay, a PC mag, about PC's vs consoles what do you think it's going to be in favour of?

And also, Re: PC's being upgradable, this can also be bad. To keep up with the latest games and to be able to play them on your PC you will HAVE to keep spending money on them.

News flash: Xbox and PS2 PLAY DVDS.

I don't prefer PC's over consoles, I'm just pointing out that all of the platforms/consoles have their advantages and disadvantages.

Oh you mean like their internal developers EAD (Mario, Zelda), Rare (Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Star Fox), Hal (Smash bros), Retro Studios (Metroid), Camelot (Golden Sun, Mario Sports) & Factor Five (Rouge Squadron)? Or perhaps you're talking about the Third Party developers that Microsoft and Sony depend on to stay alive?

Not that it means anything at all, but the GameCube is clearly more powerful then the PS2 and can match anything the X-Box throws at it. It's widely agreed amongst gaming sites (even the ones that adore the X-Box) that the Capcoms Resident Evil (exclusive to the Cube) has the best graphics for any console game to date.

Where did CarterS bag the X-Box. Just because he's questioning some off your uneducated and narrow minded views, doesn't mean he hates the X-Box. There's only one fanboy here bagging another console.

What made it a failure? The record yearly profits for Nintendo? A library of games that contained some of the greatest and most revolutionary titles of the past ten years? Geeze, I hope you're right and the GameCube is a failure.

The PS2 is a huge success and is indeed a great console (that's why I own one).

The X-Box hasn't really caught my attention, but clearly Halo is one of the best games of the year. Plus there are games like Psychonauts and Blinx on the way. I'll probably get one a bit later on its life.

What you need to do is stop trying to define yourself through a bloody video game console and just accept that some people prefer Nintendo over the competition.

You're coming off as a try-hard 14yr old geek.

Of course they do.

But how many FPS's can one play?

Oh, and i love sports games, but if you think EA make "sports" games, then you're kidding yourself.

I'd rather shhit my pants than sit through an EA Sports game.

CarterS...... the race as it stands !!!

Nintendo made an impressive debut, selling 10,995 GameCube consoles in the first three days after launch. But Inform figures show the sales quickly dropped away to 3936 in the second week and totalled just 1538 last week.

Meanwhile, sales of Microsoft's Xbox have stabilised, with average sales of 2981 in the past three weeks. Microsoft has sold 59,124 Xbox units since the launch on March 14.

PS2. The price drop was announced on Friday last week and took effect the next day, sending PS2 sales soaring to 7856 for the week. Sony was already selling an average of 5181 consoles for the previous three weeks, thanks to the popularity of a bundle combining the PS2 with Final Fantasy X for $499.

It wont be long now, and you will see that the Gamecube is a flop!!!

Cheers!;)

sales will pick up when Mario, Zelda and Resident Evil are released.

FreeSpeech, your coming across as someone who doesn't really know a lot about gaming and are probably just a fanboy of the Xbox and are just natuarally agains't the Gamecube.

Now don't get me wrong, I love my Xbox, it has a nice spot in my entertainment unit and I enjoy playing Halo, NHL Hitz, or what ever other games I hire on it from time to time.

I actually fire up my Gamecube more often at the moment and will continue to for some time into the future as well as the Xbox.

Now, who cares about what the figures state. its just early days and it was probably the wrong time of the year to launch a games system down here which could lead to the lowish sales figures at the current time.

Realistically your clutching at straws in this arguement.

Now thats just crap. OF course a PC mag is going to say that a PC is better than a console......what, you seriously think they will say to go out buy a console and play that and not worry about a PC?
PC's of course will come off better with them being able to be updated all the time, but seriously.......when was the last time you had a fully powered up PC? I'd say probably no one in here has had the best of them best in their PC, why? Because it costs to much thats why.
This is why a PC is better for a cheap version for games, sure it can't be upgraded, but at least the developer knows what they are developing for and not have to worry about it perhaps not running on the majority of their markets PC's as they would have to when developing for the PC.

Well just my take...havent played either the GC or the PS2...but i do have an XBox which i am enjoying immensely. I own Halo (the greatest game of all time) :D, 2002 World Cup Soccer and Moto GP. Will soon own DOA3 and in the future Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars Galaxies.

XBox rocks!

Whoa.. and I put don't gripe!

Ok to respond to you all in one post:

I said IMHO meaning In My Humble Opinion. Don't take it personal.
The PC mag has a huge ass Xbox section, unfortunatly.

I think some of you misunderstood me. I own a playstation and a tonne of games, more than I will ever have for PC and I will probably get an Xbox or a PS2/3. My point was PC's are the way of the future.

This is about all I can be bothered to write because I simply can't win this argument since it's a matter of personal opinion and to any of you who carry this on after this post. Please go back to your PS/Xbox/N46/DC

Just because I like the GameCube and think it is targetted equally to adults as it is kids doesn't mean I am misled.

Anyway I enjoyed this good spirited argument.

Cheers.

BTW, I don't even own a GameCube at the moment. Hopefully that will change with my Uni holidays coming up :D :) :D
