Did a search but couldn't find anything...

Had a relo just in NYC who i asked to try and find me some games as it's damn cheaper over there, plus the AUD is kicking ass. Anyways, they found FIFA10 and 2K10 for $60US ($64AUD that day), however when they asked the sales people if they will work on an Australian PS3, they all said that the games were region locked to the USA. She isn't much into technology so didn't risk buying it, but im almost positive that PS3 games aren't region locked. Can anyone confirm this, cos I know heaps of people who've bought from US sites/ebay etc and they've been fine. Also, is the online games aspect the part that screws you when you buy outside Australia?

EB has Fifa10 "on sale" for $90 ffs, i ain't paying that much extra when I don't need to...

One thing to keep in mind though, is that although the discs aren't region locked, downloadable content is usually locked.

If you import a game from the US, you'll have to buy any DLC from the US Store. Same goes for Asia discs and store I think.

Some Australian DLC works with European discs though, but there's a chance you may get stuck having buy DLC from Europe - I'm not real sure with that one though. Something like FIFA where for the older versions (not sure about 10) in the Aussie store, it says it requires a certain "SLES" numbered disc - that may be less chance of working? Not sure though. I haven't seen any games confirmed as not working, but then I've only seen 2 games confirmed as working.

RE playing online, does it make a different where u buy the disc from? and DLC, i assume they are the upgrades to the game, will i need to purchase something to be able to download the content?

Playing online won't matter. It all comes down to where YOU are, not where the game is from.

If you really need to buy a game that you know you will purchase DLC for, my reccomendation is to buy it locally. I guess the issue is that you don't know whether some games will have DLC (and let's face it almost all do nowadays), but you'll save time and possible other issues if you have a set state of mind whether or not you're going to buy the DLC for the game you want to buy.

There are ways of purchasing DLC from the overseas stores, but it tends to be a bit tedious and annoying (Involves putting funds into online accounts and paying via that on the overseas stores).

Patches however are fine and work with any game.
