We wont be able to land a big name player... we wouldnt have enough space in the cap.

If Patrick Bowden came he wouldnt be on much.

I hope he comes though.

Ahhh... no thanks!!!

If Patrick Bowden is the best player available in the PSD... l'll cry. I know we wont have much room in the cap, but consider the following:

Ottens 2004 = $450K +
Simmonds 2005 = $330K

= saving of $120K.

Plus the departures of Houlihan ($100K), Blumfield ($150K), Fiora ($200K), Marsh (Oily Rag), Rogers ($200K), Kellaway ($150K).

Now all these players salaries will be replaced by minimum wage youngsters. There will be plenty of room to pick up a more than decent player, without going over the top - ie. someone in the salary brack of $250-300K.

Add to this player paycuts... Gasper - probably $100K on last year. And the fact that not one of our players were good enough this year to be asking for a pay increase this year (ala Razor Hall) will help.

With all this in place... there will be plenty of room. If Patrick Bowden is our first round pick... then we have let go one of the strongest bargaining opportunities we will ever receive.

You can not trade your draft picks in the PSD... so our first pick is absolutely essential that we get the best player possible. Patrick Bowden will not and should not be this player! ;)

Depending on who ends up in the PSD, its really put the ball in our court.

If Bowden nominates for the NATIONAL DRAFT, we may end up picking him up with pick 52, but most probably 36.

That means we still have a crack at the best unsigned talent in the PSD.

Bowden would nominate a price and this will deter other clubs from taking him before 36.

Just a thought.......

We did the same for Morrison last year........
