Sandilands can renegoiate a contract, because if he wants 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, he gets it because the over 27 rule doesnt apply to him.

Is it right that they have a rule that applys to some, and not to others?

Of course it is. Footy club contracts always work on a hierarchy where the better players are favoured. We aren't pinko commie bastards after all. Otherwise you might as well argue that Hall deserves the same contract as Hill next year.

Hase is a good player but he's body is older than his years and the club obviously figured it was better to be safe than sorry. It's not like he's been told the one year deal will be his last - if he keeps playing well he could theoretically sign another 5 one year deals after this one.

I just dont see how any of this makes a difference. We arent under salary cap pressure, and wont be for several years to come. If his body didnt stop him this year, after coming back from a reco, with all its attached problems, why will it be worse next year?

Hypothetically, even if hase doesnt run out his contract at full steam, at worst, he takes up the last spot on our list, which would be a last round selection/rookie pick. Its not like were playing russian roulette.

What would we have lost by offering him 2 years instead of 1? Really, its not like he was asking for the world.

I think its also a terrible message to send out to the players. How can the club ask for loyalty from its players, if we arent willing to offer the same to one of our club legends. Not really an appealing thought for someone like Suban, whos not blessed with awesome pace, loves the rough stuff with all its career shortening damage, and comes from vic.

It's not about us being under salary cap pressure, it's about us needing all the spare money we can get to keep GC and GWS's grubby little mitts off our young guns.

You missed the point entirely.

Talk about bleeding purple blood. What about all us supporters forking out an extra 5% for membership?

Firstly, by "needing all the spare money we can get" i assume you are referring to above the table contracts/payments, re our kids, which im unaware if you realise, full under the Total Player Payments umbrella?

Seriously, its not like Hase would be asking for 1m a season. The amount wed be paying him would not come close to stopping us from signing one of our youngsters. If for some reason we are close to the maximum, then we are up the creek, big time, regardless of Hase.

If theres another reason that you dont think he should get a 2nd year, like performance or rather a spot on a kid , by all means say it, but seriously, no more crazy talk about money. Its a non issue.

its pretty cheeky considering the facilities are still crap, we are still playing like crap and the economy is crap...

but I still paid up :o

Mathew Pavlich stands out for me.

Grew up an Adelaide supporter and considering the Crow's constant success the temptation to go home must have been huge. Compound this by the fact that Freo have consistently underperformed and are currently rebuilding (A process that will take at least 3 years), just makes his loyalty all the more special.

At times watching the side put in poor performances I have told myself maybe it's time for the mercy rule, send him home and let him see some sucess..But this idea is soon squashed as I realise how much we need him.

Carey was the King, Gary Ablett Snr was God, Pav will forever be known as Arguably. As in "arguably our finest ever player".

If we had our own stadium (which we should, and I'll explain how in the off-season), the whole thing would be named after him.

Nothing arguable about it. He should be known as Definitely.

We'll be doing pretty well if we ever get a player better than Pav. I can only imagine how good he would have been if he'd been able to play his whole career up forward surrounded by a good team.
