Time to stop worrying boys, lets look towards the finals now.
Shaw and Leon certainties to return, and am hoping maxwell is right to go. He is our captain, we clearly lacked leadership today, and he is a general for the back 6. Hopefully taz pulls up alright.

Sinclair, just isn't big enough physically, and just is not ready for a final.
Wood would have to go, we were one too tall tonight.
Then who? goldsack? Fasolo?

IN: Davis, Shaw, Maxwell
OUT: Sinclair, Wood, Fasolo/Goldsack

I am not sure bringing in MaCaffer with him missing majority of the Season over Fasolo would be a good Idea Matty

Re: Changes for Qualifying final- West Coast Eagles

We all seem to agree out Sinclair, Wood, Fasolo, Goldsack.

We really need the Jolly and Leighroy Brown to crash in harder.

Stop the preservation go in hard and win!!!!

I would keep Fasolo in but used as Sub

Fasolo can't play finals, we saw that tonight, I love the kid, but he's 18 (19 yet?) and will not be able to handle the pressure of the finals.

The Caff had 14 possessions in a quarter before breaking down in his last VFL game, and apparently burned down the house in the practice match today.

He was also first emergency for this weeks game, and in hindsight we would have been better off giving him a run.

He is a best 18 player when fit, let alone best 21, so I'll back my changes all week.

If Taz doesn't come up, the Caff has to play for certain, Cam Wood can not play forward in a final, our forward press just breaks down with him there, and we will need to play Leeroy down back.

If Taz doesn't play, Fasolo or Goldy will get a reprieve as the sub IMO, but they will be bloody lucky.

I am a MaCaffer fan, he is tough, versatile and bloody skillful, he needs to be seriously considered for next week.

Despite goldy having a bad one, he has the finals experience and has performed against quality oppositions before.

Re: Changes for Qualifying final- West Coast Eagles

I wish I was as confident as some of you guys about Taz.....

Ins: Maxy (though I doubt he'll be 100% ready), Young, Shaw and Davis
Outs: Sinclair, Wood, Fasolo and Tarrant inj

It was pretty self explanatory that we severely lacked run tonight (would love to know our play on % from a mark???) Young, Shaw and Davis go a long way towards rectifying that and cover the loss of Daisy. The midfield is the key next week if we win that area of the game, even if we go in undersized, we can hold their tall's IMO.

BTW I'm hoping and preying Taz get's up because not only is he very important, but he deserves the ultimate success as much as anyone and he will no doubt be geeing the boys up whether he runs out there or not this week!

Re: Changes for Qualifying final- West Coast Eagles

Um, after first quarter engine room sent to bench for 9 minutes and other to FP. Blair as sub apparently was the only one not to hear that we weren't supposed to be using the press.

Thought the Fas was poor for a youngster trying to make his mark. Okay, think we've now seen that Sinclair is no slouch when played on the ball, but similarly hope he sees that a tough preseason lies ahead if he'd like to contribute at AFL for more than one quarter.

Both need to go for now.

IN: old guard: Shaw, Maxi, Davis

OUT: hopefully no injuries: Sinclair, Fasolo, Wood.

Get the Anvil back up the ground; play soothing John Denver music about Arizona in my mind to Taz's ankle and Goldy's shoulder; get the Maxi back in to growl to all and sundry and especially to Jolly who must just about be the redest face in the mirror right now.

Re: Changes for Qualifying final- West Coast Eagles

I'd look at dropping Didak after tonight.

I could have shat a nugget on the field that had more hardness than him.
I'm not sure which game you watched but he was one of the few players running around, creating link up work, presenting as a target and kicking the ball into the forward 50. It's not his role to be ultra defensive and laying big tackles. A game like tonight doesn't help when the players around him are doing very little to create loose balls.

Re: Changes for Qualifying final- West Coast Eagles

In: Maxwell, Shaw, Davis
Out: Goldsack, Sinclair, Wood (unfortunate, he is in much better form than Jolly atm)

Where are all those people who were saying Goldsack was a better option than our premiership captain? Embarrassing. Hope like hell that Maxxy is right to go next week so we don't have to endure another week of Goldsack's fumbling, panicking and his penchant for being completely turned inside out by his direct opponent. Trade bait.

Re: Changes for Qualifying final- West Coast Eagles

Maybe I was at the wrong game but I thought Jolly was down right pathetic and moved like a mummy while Leroy looked like he should have retired few weeks ago. So the calls to drop Wood are bewildering to say the least......

In: Shaw, Davis, Maxwell

Out: Sinclair, Fasolo, Brown/Jolly

Re: Changes for Qualifying final- West Coast Eagles

Brown was played out of position on mismatches. He's never been a good defender and has always looked slow in the defensive 50. Can't say much for Wood or Jolly. I do know Jolly had a lot more hit outs than Wood but did little around the ground, like most of the rest of the team.

I didn't realise tonight was a final? It was a Home and away game for Geelong and for collingwood it was treated as a friendly.

+1, if the Caff is fit then he should definitely get a shot after tonights performance. People forget too quickly how good his form was in last years GF.

I also wouldnt hate it if they gave Jolly the flick. He was awful tonight and has been poor for most of this season. OTOH Cam Wood has been ok the last 2 weeks round the ground and on form deserves to play ahead of Jolly. Also Wood did very well last time we played WC when every though he would be destroyed by COx and Nicknat. Obviously he is pretty poor in the hit outs but Jolly has been poor in that area as well imo, and if worst comes to worst we can go to nullify iut by playing third man up. If I was a selector I would probably go with Jolly but its very close and he needs to get his act together.

Fasolo shouldnt be considered for selection until he does something other than kick well for goal. Right now, other than the odd attempted speccy, thats his only contribution.

Benny Johnson was probably worst on ground but should get one more chance.

Lee Brown was awful as well but he was played out of position so its not entirely his fault.

Blaire was excellent when he came on

Re: Changes for Qualifying final- West Coast Eagles

In: Shaw, Davis, Maxwell, Caff

out, Sinclair Fasolo Krakouer Jolly

Why is everyone have Wood out and not Jolly? As much as i like the big Dazz hes been pretty ordinary, as for Wood hes been pretty good

Re: Changes for Qualifying final- West Coast Eagles

Make no mistake, Wood was our best ruck tonight (over the ground, compared to Jolly and Brown). But as always he's the one that goes. It's a shame, he deserves to keep his spot.

Sinclair tried but he'll be gone. Fasolo definitely gone - picked the wrong match to have a downer.

IN: Shaw - Maxwell - Davis
OUT: Sinclair - Fasolo - Brown (even though I know it will be Wood)

Re: Changes for Qualifying final- West Coast Eagles

Jolly has proven he can step up, that's why he doesn't get dropped. Also we don't know if Malthouse instructed Jolly to have a light game and told Wood to play for his spot. There could be more to it.

In terms of rucking, even tonight Jolly did a better job getting 19 hit outs to Wood's 9. Jolly had 5 tackles to Wood's 0. The area where Jolly struggled big time was his possessions around the ground, and that was the same for most of the Pies tonight. The effort wasn't there from him.

Don't be so sure.

Injury or not injury but we've been waiting for Jolls to step up for the whole year and his form has been gradually getting worse and worse...
