Quality Crumbing Small Forward

Yeah premiership medellions aren't the be all and end all.. lots of GREAT players have ended their careers without one but I still wouldn't want Milne ANYWHERE near EFC.

Absolute pig of a 'man/boy' and selfish... and not that good actually, very easy to get cheap ones over the top at the feet of Roo and Kosi etc..

I think Jetta is going to be just as exciting as betts or garlett.. he just needs to be a little bit more selfish

So selfish is good no:confused:

Milne is one of, if not THE, greatest forward pockets/small forwards of all time. Anyone who says different is too blinded by bias/hatred to see it. He's an outstanding player.

I completely agree with this. I've been thinking for a couple of years now that he is the best forward pocket the game has seen. I personally enjoy watching him play. It would be a shame to allow the public hatred to rob oneself of enjoying a great of the game.

I would rather have a power forward like Lloyd, Hurley etc.

I would have thought that a power forward's best accessory would be a small forward.

Power forwards get lots of defender's attention and someone sharp to mop up around their feet.

Oh and I barely dare speak their names, prefer to spit them, but I was thinking of the types of Milne, Betts etc when I wrote this post.

Milne has enjoyed a wonderful career.

And to think he was on our supplementary list in 2009 - One that got away.

2009?;)

I'll stick with the Geelong model of having our resting mid in there.. the likes of melksham, jetta, monfries, zaka, heppell, colyer, hocking, watson (who has been kicking a few lately), stanton just to name a few...

I think Jetta is going to be just as exciting as betts or garlett.. he just needs to be a little bit more selfish and do the gut running and he has all the skills.. 4 last week was just the start.. I really rate Leroy and he and Ryder love playing together!! Good times are a coming!

That's his, and every crumbing forwards job. Getting the ball 'at the feet' of the talls is basically the definition of crumbing. 'Cheap' ones of the top aren't always as cheap as the seem as well. Clearly you just dislike Milne.

Alwyn Davey seems to have made some great progress this year. Hard to compare with Darren Bewick but his intensity at the ball has certainly improved and he is kicking goals.

So......what you're saying is....he plays the small forward crumber role very well?

I don't think you understand the role of a small forward.

Mark Williams, Brad Johnson etc..etc were small forwards. Very good forwards, but not as good as Milne as they couldn't crumb like teams want their smalls to be able to. Milne is by far the best small I've seen play, just a freakish player with an abundance of talent. If he were an Essendon player you'd kiss the ground he walked on.

Edit: Ahhh crap, beaten by Frothies.

And to think he was on our supplementary list in 1999 - One that got away.

Remember watching him kill it in the VFL finals that season. Saw the prelim and the GF and thought we have to pick him up as he was so dangerous and could really kick a goal. Then he ends up at St. Kilda when we could have just upgraded him.

Agree, definitely one that got away.

And re his personality, we'd find a way to look past it if he was a lifetime Bomber.

Geez..... when it rains it pours eh?

I always thought Blake Caracella was a great crummer for the Bombers and was having a reasonable career until it nearly broke his neck.

It's a rare breed of forward pocket that can stand out in a bad side as a good player. When St Kilda are down, Milne still has the ability to look like a good and dangerous player.

On the other hand, he has choked it up on the biggest of stages. Not THE greatest by a long stretch. Certainly an outstanding player.

I do find it ironic that I started this thread and since Davey & Jetta have kicked over 35 goals between them.

Surely need to prove more to be spoken of as consistent, but a good start at least.

Alan Ezard says hello

games - 184
goals - 200

I used to LOVE watching Alan Ezard.. I had 15 on my back when I was a little'un. Only reason I didn't mention him here before as our perfect crumber is because in my mind he was our perfect rover (apologies to Daisy & Leon #4 Legend). I still think he should have held his spot after that final in 93 against the carlscum. It would have been my perfect day to see him, Fish, Timmy, Bomber, Sheeds and Crash hold that cup up.

ha ha, "Crash" Harvey :D

I'd forgotten about that nickname. I considered Ezard a crumbing forward as he spend more time up forward then he did in the middle

95 games, 51 goals. Not really a great return. In fact, not even a "not bad" return.

Moorcroft, premiership player, was more than a goal kicker, he was magnificent at getting the opposistion's attention away from the game, he could shut down an opponent and could give goals off at will. Very handy footballer Slash.
