It seems like her Maj might be about to pop her royal clogs. This will be massive for the UK and pretty big here too.
Plans have been in place for her death for a long time. The Queen’s doctor will call the British Prime Minister, Liz Truss, and say the code words “London Bridge is down.” Britain’s Foreign Office will call the 15 governments where the Queen is head of state, including Australia.
Albo will put on a special black tie that all PMs carry around. Commonwealth countries will observe 10 days of mourning and remembrance. Flags will be flown at half-mast. Church bells will ring across Australia.
Charles will become King immediately after the Queen’s death. The Coronation will be months later. He can choose his own name but he is expected to become King Charles III. If so, his Australian title would be - Charles the Third, by the Grace of God King of Australia and His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth. In the UK a meeting of the Accession Council will take place at St James' Palace where he will formally be named King, including his siblings ceremoniously kissing his hand. A special meeting of the Executive Council in Australia will be held to proclaim Charles as King of Australia. All members of the UK parliament will gather to swear allegiance to the new monarch.
If she carks it at Balmoral her body will be carried to London on the Royal Train. You can expect massive numbers of people lining sections of the route and throwing flowers. The funeral will be a huge event with dignitaries from nearly every country on earth attending.
Britain will postpone events such as major sport. I reckon Australian events will commemorate her death with a minute's silence then maybe some schedule changes around the funeral.
Other consequences. Britain will get a new national anthem. Australia will have to release a new set of coins. Will Camilla be named as Queen? What will be the impact on the Republican movements?
