Really sorry to hear that. For all the faults of the Royal family she remained above it all, through far tougher times too.... :( Very sad indeed.

While I hate the concept of the Royal Family, she was definately a favorite. She was a good queen during WWII, and Hitler described her as "the most dangerous woman in Europe" due to her determination and her refusing to leave London during the Blitz.

It is almost like you never thought she was going to die. Tough year for the Royals...

Very Sad,

I will miss the Queen Mum.
She just seemed to keep going.
She never seemed to let her age get the better of her.'
Tough woman.

A shocking loss especially to hear it on Easter Sunday.

Shocking? the woman was a 101 for crying out loud
 And what difference if it's on Easter Sunday? Is that worse than other days?

How sad that she will be joining her daughter

and the billions of other dead people

And considering she died peacefully in her sleep (apparently), it was the best way to go.

a good way to go, granted, but not the best. "Being" with Katie Holmes, Buffy, Natalie Portman, Jessica Alba & Shakira would be a nice way to go.

I reckon I could live to 101 as well if my entire working life consisted of little more than waving condescendingly at my loyal subjects.

that is gold, and pure gold at that.

Yes. She had a soft, friendly face. Very beautiful. :)

soft is beautiful? Craig Bradley and Josh Fraser must be the 2 most beautiful footballers in the league then.

Ahh fer Christ sake, she was 101. Why is it so sad?

If she had to queue up in the public health system like most people of her generation, she would have died 30 years ago.

Why was she so wonderful? What did she ever do to make life on earth better for anyone? All she did was smile, wave and drink gin. Great life if you can get it, it's not as if she found a cure for cancer or something.

Why shed a tear for someone born into a priveleged life? It is the same mentality that says we have to have minute silences for Americans but not even give it one thought when hundreds of Afghans die in an earthquake.

i have to agree with docker_brat

i mean, she was 101 years old, and she had a very fortunate life... if i had the best medical people waiting on me hand and foot and never had to work to make a bit of money i'd probably live to 100 as well

oh well...

Well said, Docker_Brat. What was particularly amazing about all the news stories on last night's news (and even a 1 hour doco on the ABC) was that they prattled on endlessly about her 'contributions' to English life (with John Howard predictably joining in with an overdone tribute), I still haven't had made it clear to me what she contributed to modern society apart from having a better social existence then 99.99% of the population throughout the 20th century.

It seems that some believe that she made a valuable contribution during the Second World War as was stated below:

Thinking about it, it is a ridiculous assertion that her not leaving Buckingham Palace was one of the key reasons that Germany was defeated in the war. You could only come to this conclusion if you ignored the efforts of the millions of people in who joined up various military outfits to fight fascism in countries like England, America, Australia and Russia.
