Why would you want to take it off Melbourne?
Its our main, make that only Blockbuster for the year and the game that gives us the most revenue.
Yes Demetriou put out the call that anything under 60,000 and the game may be taken away from us but if you ask me that was just a scare tactic, and I think that it did work. I saw more Melbourne fans at the game today than I have at any other this year, my mates and I actually commented on how many Melbourne fans there were and that it was the Collingwood fans that were lacking.

'96_North_99', you were probably one of those people who wanted North to go to the Gold Coast and with a post like that which is probably just there to get a reaction all credibility is lost.

I'd be pretty happy if Collingwood didn't play on QB. I'd probably like to see the Dees keep it but play someone else -- taking it off them would be a real kick in the guts for a club that's presently struggling to keep its head above the water.

What happened to the pies fans? get 52,000 to West Coast game, Melbourne dominates the Eagles figures and it's only 7k more?

The majority weren't Melbourne supporters. Collingwood clearly had more at the ground. Collingwood turnout can be deceptive if you're scanning the stands because our colours don't stand out, whereas the red of Melbourne (or the yellow of the Tiges, for example) stands out like a beacon. If you listened to the respective roars after a goal, Collingwood clearly outnumbered the Dees, as you'd expect us to.

I think an overcast day (showers were forecast but didn't eventuate) and the Dees ladder position probably knocked a few k off the attendance. Plus, it's not a Collingwood home game.

What may have skewed the perception somewhat is that Melbourne goals were greeted with genuine excitement whilst Collingwood goals were greeted by a sense of relief.

Given the respective form each team took into the game the closeness would've been a pleasing suprise for the Melbourne supporters and a source of frustration and nerves for the Collingwood mob.

My take on it anyway, as that is what I felt and witnessed in the supporters around me.

Yep, that will definately bring the crowds flocking. Personally, I say leave it as it is. If it ain't broke (59k all things considered is a pretty good turnout) don't fix it.

This is very similar to the Melb v Haw game 2 weeks ago.
There was 41,000 at this game but 25k-30k of them were hawk fans. If you looked around the ground it was brown n gold everywhere except the melbourne cheer squad and the MCC / Olympic area.
Watching the replay it sometimes sounded like the melbourne fans were louder. But this due to them getting all excited when they kick a goal wheres the hawk fans couldn't really have cared less if they kicked a goal, nothing to get excited about.
The melbourne fans also sometimes sound a bit louder because all their fans are situated near the the commentary box.
This seemed the same for the Melb v Coll game.

Leave it with Melbourne. Giving bigger and more financially successful clubs a monopoly on blockbuster matches just widens the gap. People talk about Melbourne needing to stay as the Melbourne FC for the sake of history, well, this match is a big part of what they need to remain viable.
