Questionable Moves?

Dean Bailey is in a no-win situation. Only a 15 yr old who doesn't understand the directives passed on to the coach by his club would bag Bailey. Obviously Bailey isn't comfortable being in the situation he is in when he knows he has to promote competitiveness in the team at such an important stage. The players who were out there yesterday played for their club and each other which was very meaningful to me as a supporter.

I think the player moves through out the game were so over the top that Bailey was trying to get the message out there that it wasn't his prerogative because there are more subtle ways to go about it than what he did. Bailey has to juggle the club directive with maintaining the respect of the players and I think he has cleverly over done things yesterday to get it through to people what a farcical situation he has been put in.

Lay off the coach people!

Bailey's not in a no-win.

Play our players in their best spots, we've shown we're more than likely to lose so the pro-tankers will still get their way.

Exactly.

We're more than capable of losing on our own with our players in their primary positions on the ground.

Not sure what you were doing Sunday arvo but we ****ed around with our line up most of the game against the Tiges and nearly won.

Against better opposition I don't expect as much "experimentation" but there is no doubt that Bailey is under instruction whether we agree with it or not.

On the contrary, we are almost capable of winning with our structure resembling a dog's breakfast. Freo and North are very winnable by the way we were structured yesterday (not withstanding players to come back btw) with Carlton and the Saints the likely losses.

Then, in possibly the Great mans best performance yet, Bailey
puts on a tactical display for the ages, a coaching clinic, prompting
even the opposition coach to praise such masterful moves, moves
which had us in front with all but a milli-second to go.

This is possibly the most farcical, overblown paragraph i've ever read on BigFooty. Astounding.

And please don't ever write 'brang' again.

there's laws in the game against matchfixing, but not against tanking... it's ridiculous.
What? Still can't believe you still have Trent Cotchin on your list after your coach at the present time admitted he gave up on trying to win a game to secure him?

What good is trying a new option up forward against Geelong at Skilled Stadium where the delivery is going to be as pressured and as rare as can be expected in 22 games. If your going to experiment you doing it against lesser opposition surely? Especially when injuries force your hand.

There are alot of accusations flying around, but in the end everyone is guessing aren't they? Speculation drives speculation.

EXACTLY right KLTH - that's what a number of us, including me, have been saying for a while now.

Why shouldn't we be experimenting and giving different players a chance when we're playing a game which - let's face it - has about as much consequence to us as a NAB Regional Challenge match!

It comes down to what the coaches priorities are. If you are going to move Newton to the midfield for genuine development then what does it matter who it is against when you have won only 3 games ffs. Then on the other hand if you poke your head through the clouds you may realise that there wasn't much reason to put him there at all apart from changing around our structure. The question is why which I'll leave you to figure out. There is a fine line between experimentation and just ****ing around with the team. Amongst the many moves made there were some that showed promise yesterday which is why it was a mixed bag.

Yes, very questionable.. My family and I were there today as we are everyweek, and although we did not want to win, we have decided as a family not to attend anymore games this season. As most of us would agree, it is a horrible feeling going to the football as a die hard Melbourne supporter and not fully supporting you team. I've never felt so ashamed when jordie was lining up for goal and i was hoping he would kick it!! Yes i do believe that losing is the best thing for the club, but i as a supporter, i cannot attend games and not support Melbourne.
I think 90% of your fellow MFC supporters are in exactly the same boat as you.

That's worthwhile then. For all that it is, tanking is still an guesstimation. I'd rather not associate it with Melbourne until there is proof.

Tanking has not been proved. Newton and PJ would have been on the pine for the whole of the last quarter if there had been room; he had to hide them somewhere.
Warnock & Frawley gave bite to an insipid forward line, and showed enough to be able to pull this move when we need it in an important game against a top team in future.
Bate had something like 23 possessions in the midfield, and Miller had 9 in the second half after only 2 in the first half; Dunn had 13 second half after 5 first half.

These were inspired moves that could have won us the game, even with only 19 (possibly 18) fit players in the last quarter, which allowed us only 4 rotations for the whole quarter. The players left nothing on the field, they gave everything and did us proud and nearly pulled off an impossible win that no so-called "expert" had predicted, against all the odds. But thank god they didn't.

Whatever moves Bailey did do, or didn't do, he would have been accused of tanking. If Bailey had just left everybody in their first half positions - now THAT would have been tanking!

This how i know we wanted to lose. If this had of been round 22 and a wins gets us in the finals. People would be up in arms about the siren. Instead people let it slide. End of story.

Well I don't know about you mate, but I certainly haven't let it slide - been loudly talking about that on the main board and on the Bay ever since it happened, and I know a bunch of others have too.
