I have made this point before. Annoying. Why people can't structure single para responses is beyond me. Then again, looking at the level of maturity on the S & C board, I understand.

it's far worse on google groups. i reckon when you quote it should automatically convert to:

I would say only if its a long one. Quoting to a sentence or paragraph is fine and makes it clear what you are responding too.

Well that's what I try and do, I mean sometimes you come into a thread and you see something from a couple of pages ago that you want to reply to, so you sometimes need to quote, but I try and take out the part I am actually responding to so it doesn't take up half a bloody page.

absolutely agree. i also think it is necessary to quote if the one you responding to is a few posts before... like this one.

but i have seen far too often posts that would be near 50 lines, and the person underneath will quote the whole thing and whack a :D on the end

Very funny. Isn't the point that if you are responding to a quote that you endeavour to include that info in what you are saying.

I quote if the post is not just above or if it is in amongst various things that someone has said.

But this is just me practising my wealth of education on you all and showing that it is unnecessary to quote just because I can't be bothered rewriting what someone else has said.

But sometimes they say it better than me so why not!!
