R is for Rivalry
For 110 years, the game has forged some wonderful rivalries. Carlton and Collingwood have clashed more than any other teams and produced some of the game's great contests (the 1970 grand final, anyone?). Melbourne-Collingwood grand finals from the 1950s and 60s are legendary, while Hawthorn and Essendon clashes during the 1980s forged another memorable rivalry. These days, we have Sydney and West Coast, whose incredible series of nailbiters culminated in last year's one-point grand final. In the past 11 encounters between the two sides, the win/loss record has been W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L-W, with the Eagles of course the most recent victor. The average winning margin over those 11 games has been 15.18 points, although in the past five matches it has been just 2.4 points. Amazingly, four points has been the greatest winning margin in the clubs' previous five clashes – and that includes two epic grand finals. Bring on round one

Any predictions/comments on the round one game anyone?

I say, swans by around 2 goals.
Best on ground will likely be judd.
hall 2 goals.
ROK & jude to be swans best. spida will also impress rucking & up forward!

wouldnt be surprised if a brawl errupts around half time (of course initiated some smartarze comment about the GF by a WC player).... & finally, Hunter to cop a broken nose from a stray elbow ;)

Hmm...

I'll say Swans by 10 points (or less).

Heart says Swans, head says the Illegals.

A draw would be horrible. I would be devastated but happy? I wouldn't know how to feel after the game. :p

Swans by 2 points in front of 85000 screaming, seething Swans Supporters baying for Bogan Blood.

Sydney by 6 points, kicking the final 3 goals of the game to take the 4 points. An embarrassing blunder by Cousins will cost the Illegals one goal in the last quater.:)

i've never seen a draw live. but i think i'll be "satisfied".. i mean its better than a loss at the end of the day. even tho it'll be awsome to knock off the eagles, it'll still be acceptable for me.

Both sides will probably still be a tad underdone, but I think some of the outs for the Swannies will test them more. Telstra isn't a great ground for us, although we had a reasonable result against the Saints there the last time we played. I'd predict a pretty tight, spirited match, but I think the Eagles might just have it over your blokes again this time - WCE by 11 points.

Looking forward to it whichever way it falls...

What?

A draw would make things very intersting. Can you imaging how pumped up the rivalry would be after that? Because it's only Round 1 and nothing major will come of the result i'm just hoping for a close game with some good highlights, and of course no injuries to either team. If I had to pick a winner, I'd say Eagles by 3 points.
