Extremely harsh on ANB, hasn't done a great deal wrong.
He's been ok and gets around 17 touches and just under a goal a game which is about the output you would hope for (little low on scoring). But im not seeing him go above and beyond that. Especially in that last 4 weeks (only 2 goals in a month, and missed some really critical and very kickable ones against Freo).

Also for a high half forward his I50s are drying up quickly, he averages 3 clangers a game which is a worry, he's only had 1 Goal Assist in 4 weeks.

For a guy who had a top 4 BnF finish last year I'd say he's certainly not played to that level. TBH I'd struggle to put him in our top 4 forwards. Ben Keays for example is thoroughly outplaying him.

He just isnt, goals aside.

Disagree
He has been great

Always in the right place at the right time, calm under pressure
I didn't say he’s been bad.
However his first couple of games when we were flying he looked rushed (which to me isn’t a great sign) and missed a couple of easy goals.

I'm no Smith fan by any stretch of the imagination, but is it that difficult to see why? Hinge is out which is a tonne of experience out the door so they're no doubt worried about the stability of the backline. Smith also has decent leg speed, very similar to Hinge. If you're talking like-for-like attributes (not in terms of actual quality) with experience then he'll be in consideration. The game is metres gained in that position, and Milera is having a shocker bringing the ball down the ground and keeps passing it sideways (132 metres gained......)

Nankervis just doesn't look great in that position off HB, Curtin doesn't have the speed, we don't want to swing Dawson into that position or we'll simply get murdered in the middle with Cripps/Hewett/Cerra combo...

I'm all for giving Edwards a debut but this coaching group won't take the risk in an inexperienced kid over Smith, ain't gonna happen. Like I've said previously Crows rebuild is done, and giving players games to blood them when they're an unknown quantity isn't going to happen unless they are in a CLEAR vein of form, and when there isn't another experienced option available. The coaching group are terrified for their jobs.

Outs:-
Murray
Hinge
Crouch
Taylor

Ins:-
Butts
Smith
Berry
Fog

Draper (Sub)
Here's where I have to disagree. Carlton have Will White on a HFF and Carroll off a HBF, both of whom have played SFA games and are very inexperienced. Perfect opportunity to blood the likes of Edwards on one of them (or bring back Bond). Sometimes the youth just provide the spark a side needs, and Smith ain't it.

He just isnt, goals aside.
At this point if I watched the 7 games and could only choose 1 of Keays or ANB for my side, It wouldn't even be a close decision.

And the Head-to-Head stats back that up.
Goals: Keays
Kicking Accuracy: Keays
I50: Keays
Disposals: Keays
Meters Gained: Keays
Score Launches: Keays
Marks: Keays
Marks on Lead: Keays
GA: Keays
Coaches Votes: Keays
Matches polled Coaches Votes: Keays
Player rating: Keays
Clearances: Keays
Clangers: ANB
Turnovers: ANB

Not making this up, go and check Wheeloratings.com for yourself.

Id also disagree Curtin doesnt have the speed. Its perfectly fine and hes got a great left leg to go with it.

And keays hasn’t been in his best form either.

Theres very little between them in all indicators.

I dont know what you were expecting, but this is what he's done his entire career.

Carlton backline have been working well together. We need to spread them and separate their defenders so we can play some one on one footy. Thats the only way to exploit Silvagni missing.
It's already been demonstrated this year how to negate the Blues' defence: simply continuously avoid kicking it to Weitering. So, we need well separated leads from the forwards.

Wasnt hw running through their midfield a bit last year? Getting noticed a lot more.
No way hes cracking into our stacked midfield.

I’m holding fire unto selection comes out. What has hurt him was the non selection of guys like Edwards and Ryan last year when the season was cooked. This has always been a problem. Now we are heading into a crucial game, does he have the faith to go with these untried kids that could potentially be very good players or will he rest on the tried and mediocre seniors at his disposal? I feel Nicks has created this problem himself, as well as the ridiculous midfield selection in the SANFL at times.

Spot on.

Nicks mentioned "squad management" this week - which is complete bullshit coming from him.

If we did manage the squad, we'd blood young players at suitable times - not out of desperation.

Now we have a MUST WIN game (which I hope we lose), and you know he won't trust/risk bringing in a new player - because we didn't get them into the side at an earlier stage when we could of.

He's ****ing useless, and constantly a victim of his own stupidity.

I was expecting a point of difference from what we have, a classy goal kicking high half forward with boat loads of game craft earned over 10 seasons. At this stage he's not really showing that to me. Just a slightly less impressive version of Ben Keays without the high ceiling games that Ben gives us every 4-5 games.

I'm not saying he won't pick it up (in fact the entire point of this conversation was I hope he does). But for a 180+ game player, I'm still waiting to see if he has another gear, or if this is his ceiling.

Then you probably werent watching his career.

I enjoy whilst Campo is talking ROB up, they are playing his Freo blooper reel. Had a listen to Nicks’ interview yesterday and he said we are backing ROB in this week. He also only really talked about Smith because someone raised his name - did say itd be someone whos trained with defenders though which doesnt neccesarily bode well for a Daws move.
