Cars Race cars & bikes you find aesthetically or aurally pleasing

Getting close to Le Mans this year and all of the pages dedicated to old men in expensive toys that I follow in my socials are starting to post again, wondering if anybody else pauses to think about obscure racing cars from a bygone era or if it's just me?

One of my favourite sounds is the LS7.R V8 in the GT1 version of the Corvette C6.R. These things were insanely loud even over all the other cars in the GT field.

And one of my favourite looking cars ever is the Mercedes CLK GTR/LM from the late 90s, arguably the GTR with the V12 sounds better than the V8 powered LM, but videos of the GTR in full noise are very hard to find. Not sure why but the look just does it for me. No it's not the same car that Mark Webber flipped at Le Mans, that was next year's one.

What racing cars or bikes from days gone by did you find aesthetically or aurally pleasing?

I'm not a Ford man by any stretch but we've got Colin Bond's old Caltex Sierra in at the moment, I've always liked the look of that. Maybe it was the Holden red they decided it should run with.

Runs down at Phillip Island most years for the classic races.

I was always partial to the Castrol sawtooth livery as well.

I'm a fan of RBR for a bunch of reasons, one being their design theory. They have a history of being adventurous in once-off liveries and my favourite is their RB15 Silverstone Shakedown from 2019. I even paid through the nose to get a 1:18 model, no regrets.

This one looks alright too, from PI this year.

One of the toughest looking race cars ever IMO, the Chevy Monza.

One of my earliest memories as a kid is the Grice one from the Sandown 1000 in 1984. I think it was the bright colours and the sound of it thundering past the Grandstand that stood out. Bob Jane's is the most iconic though.

SvG just signed an extension with Trackhouse, I think his ride with that team looks slick as. I actually enjoy the matte RB liveries and rally really enjoy NASCAR liveries where one sponsor is predominant. If SvG gits gud at ovals this could end up being iconic.

Other NASCAR liveries that fit the brief off the top of my head: Kyle Busch's M&M Toyota, Dale's Goodwrench GM.
