And it’s that time of the year for lovers of horse racing.

Views, thinking, tips, whatever all welcome.

Opening on a lovely spring day for Caulfield Guineas here in Melbourne.

Mods may wish to move this to the Nest.
Leave to their discretion.

The alligator (Alligator Blood) in the Guineas?

Avilius surly just wins the Caulfield Stakes.

Princess jenni for a very very open Toorak Hcp.

Flit in the 1,000 Guineas.

And to earn a spot in the Caulfield Cup goes to the winner of the Herbert Power.

Steel Prince looks the obvious. For a challenger I’m thinking Prince Of Arran as a strong stayer.

Good luck to those having a flutter.

Should add the Group 1 in Sydney, the Spring Champion Stakes looks a nice feast for the favourite, Shadow Hero.

But watch for a nice strong run from Quick Thinker on his way to the Derby.
Likes the track wet and will served this.
Nash Rawiller in the saddle.

Cape Of Good Hope, I
Missed that. Nice win.

Cox Plate, very very open this year.

I watched the races on TV today, some very good races with close finishes.

Better do your homework for next week.;)

At least I had Flit.

Just, but she got there.

Super Seth made up for my horrible Day before that haha.
And what a win.
Alligator looked all the winner then slightly slower and Seth came and came. Amazing win. Great spectacle.

The Japanese in the Caulfield Cup looks a nice prospect.

Excellent form.

They usually do very well staying wise.

Only needs a top 8 finish to qualify for the Melbourne Cup and with its weight would hence be a certain starter.

Mer De Glacé
Maybe I over like the Japanese but they seem very stout most years.
Roughie is Derby winner Angel Of Truth.
Hartnell to run well with Constantinople.

But a very open year.

Well called and I came second

Kind of Silly that the Big Aussie Racers are for Stayers but we mostly train Sprinters
Not sure Dave I think it's more to do with prize money.
I view it more as an evolution.
Owners focus on such things and perhaps breeders of these mighty horses.
Maybe someone on here can explain it better?

Begins with the breeding.

Many breeders go for the sprinters as it’s a quicker turnaround time to get them to the races, quicker return for owners (or at least know if they might be ok or not so good).

Starts from there.

Great irony, The Everest aside, the biggest money is for staying races.
A strong sturdy capable stayer even in lower grades can make some nice handy money.

Japan breed strong staying types, England too.

Very true but we have changed in things like country or metro race meetings there all 1000 to 1600 for the most part.
Many local cups (distance races) have been vanished.
So that will persuade the Australian horse owner to not bother with buying a stayer and having patience?
So that leads to a lack of motivation why train an Aussie Horse to be a stayer?

All true, yes.

It’s dissapointing.

Cox Plate day.

im seeing the year of the Japanese.

Lys Gracieux looks the one, her form if she brings her A grade is so strong. Can see her win by 2 to 3 lengths.

just the logical choice.

id love love love to see Avilius win, I’m a mega Avilius fan. Have always liked him.
and I’d run him in 10 days time if he comes through well today. He deserves his chance to power in a two mile race.
last year was essentially pole axed out of the race by the CliffsOfMoher incident.

mystic journey is a bit the forgotten horse and be a great story if she won, as early favourite with string form. The Tassie horse with lots of ability.

(Kings Will Dream would be an amazing story of looking in peril in last years Cox Plate, almost dying then recovering to win? Be a great story. Though can’t see him winning.)

so today I’m looking at:

1. Lys Gracieux

2. Avilius
3. Mystic Journey

best outsider: Black Heart Bart (as found his form can see him running on)
