Actually he shaved his head and has said on numerous occasions how stupid he looked with long hair. And that it looks better now...I agree.

Im Freaking Glad Agassi won.

Rafter is a spoilt brat the way he treats Mark Philppoussis.

Last nite Pat Cash said something about Pat Rafter stoping for time coz of some so called "cramp" and alot ppl got pissed coz he said that. Now switch players around ok, Mark Philppoussis instead of Rafter and u would have had the hole media against Mark.

And Rafter is one person i wanna hit in the head right now.

Im sorry if i have pissed u ppl off about this but this is my view and im sticking too it Rafter is a selfish brat.

Rafter should be used to the heat - he's from Mount Isa, but I guess it came down to Agassi playing less 5 set matches in the other rounds of the draw, and all of rafters matches took it's toll

Mags,

How does it feel to be in the minority regarding feelings toward Pat Rafter, a true Australian champion who is also very patriotic and also a philanthropist. (About as popular as Dan24's premiership thread.)

As a Collingwood supporter these ideals are possibly beyond reach. Get a mirror and take a good long look at yourself.

At least the Aussie crowd applauded Agassi's effort, and that is much more than I can say for the biasest USA crowd when Pat Rafter (twice) won the US Open.

I cannot believed you said that about the nicest bloke in australian sport.
Pat Rafter selfish? what sort of crap are you collingwood morons smoking? he gave away one of his shirts to a disabled fan who couldn't see the game, i was there that day and for him to do that shows what a credit he is to aussie sport. doesn't sound selfish to me.
hang on forgot about the the thousands he's given to charity and the charity which he has started.
How dare you make outlandish statements without something to back it up. Philipoussis' attitude toward Davis Cup deserves responses like what Pat said.

And people wonder why collingwood supporters are ridiculed, well here's the reason why.

If you had a bridge built in your honour it would be only for the birds to use as a toilet.
You have such an insignificant life (You support collingwood)that it'll never occur.

I think we forget to remember that Australia is one of few countries that care bout Davis Cup.

Dont we all forget, how ****** Newcombe treated The god (Phillipoussis)??

Go the scud!

Michele,
Is he a philanthropist while getting paid millions to play a SPORT, or while sitting in the sun, holidaying in Bermuda, having taken 12 months off to recover from his HECTIC schedule?

West Boy,

Rafter took time off in the Bermudan Sun? for a well earned rest and he also took time off to recover from shoulder surgery.
A strong shoulder is needed to play the game of tennis and Pat was recovering from surgery. You dill!

Everyone, including sportman/sportwomen are entitled to holidays. Would you have been so scathing of Chris Grant. Perhaps you believe Grant should be able to run and kick goals with a sprained ankle!

Pat Rafter earns a lot of his money through sponsorship and he also CHOOSES to give some of that money to charity. HE DOES NOT have to give away any money or set-up a charity.

Yes, he is a philathropist, a great role model and a great Australian.

Michele,
A well earned rest????
From what? Philanthropy?
biggrin.gif

I feel you made my point better than I did. A philanthropist dedicates most of his life to helping humanity, not sitting on a resort waiting for "his shoulder to repair, because a strong shoulder is needed to play tennis".

I'm not bagging Pat here ..... he does what he does ... and getting rewarded handsomely for it .... but I'm just stating that there are far more deserving people out there to be labelled philanthropists. The sad truth is that most of the people that would be deservingly labelled that, will never be heard of/mentioned. Their work goes unnoticed. IMO, sportmen/women are too highly regarded, and their "work" needs to be put in perspective.

Secondly, would I have been as scathing on Chris Grant? If some "dill" went and called him a philanthropist- I most probably would have. I have the upmost respect for him, and I'm sure he donates quite a bit to charity as well, (and isn't running to the media to tell the world about it
wink.gif
), but he aint no bloody philanthropist. He earns a living playing a sport.... while others are on the street RISKING their lives to help drug addicts, others SACRIFICING their time and little money they have to travel to third world nations to help the starving ..... not on a bloody tennis court getting "respected and revered" for playing on with thucken cramps.

I don't have a problem with you calling him a top bloke, great role model, whatever .... but a philanthropist? So by your reckoning, anyone that earns in excess of millions per annum, and "chooses" to give a small percentage of that to charity is a philanthropist? Please!

I know were all aussies and patriots but give Agassi some credit he played very well and beat an in form Rafter. Well done Pat and well Done Andre.
