Aussie rules leagues are footy/football. EPL and the like are soccer. American football is gridiron (though I sometimes slip up and call it NFL), and NRL and the like are rugby..

It shits me how sydneysiders call rugby "footy", same with A-League followers. I actually watched a report last night on the news about how the A League aims to be the premier code of football in Australia. Shit you not I'll move to Russia if that sport ever becomes dominate in Australia. I don't hate the sport, but A League is a joke.

Interesting fun fact... Aussie Rules is the oldest codified sport in the world. The rules were the first ever sport that were agreed upon and written down officially. Funny enough... this all happened in Sydney!

I have a feeling that Aussie Rules (sorry, australian football) was the first sport ever to have players wear numbers on their back. (I need to confirm this though)
