Fall Out Boy

* Chris Judd, if the shoulders hold up, will be a superstar. He is so confident, no nerves whatsover.

* The kid Williams can play.

* Gardiner is a flawed footballer. Can't kick, ground level skills are non-existent and lacks any kind of strength and is soft (Hell the softest and weakest footballer around, Rocca, pushed him around like a rag doll) .

* Darren Glass is going to be one of the better backmen in the next 10 years (although he is a little too defensive at times and needs to work on his kicking)

* Phil Matera is gone for a couple of weeks

* With Read out you lack a genuine small tagger, Banfield isn't up to it.

Let the flaming commence :D

Some comments are fair enough but i cant agree with the Gardiner comment. He does have an awkward kicking style but he can certainly deliver the ball and kick a goal when needed. As to his ground level skills, any player that tall isnt exactly gonna be the "flash" at gound level

Phil Matera im worried about, he lifted his arm and it could be 1 - 2 weeks which is very dissapointed. the tribunal will look at it closely considering Lockyer got knocked out

Phil Read showed his value today even if he didnt play... Braun no where near good enough to handle Holland and that was the difference in the end

I wont comment on the praise you gave some of the players as i totally agree with you there ;)

At first I couldn't believe we passed on Polak, now I know why...the kid is the next big thing.

* The kid Williams can play.

I wasn't that impressed by him actually. Just seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Nice mark though.

* Gardiner is a flawed footballer. Can't kick, ground level skills are non-existent and lacks any kind of strength and is soft (Hell the softest and weakest footballer around, Rocca, pushed him around like a rag doll) .

Bit harsh there mate. Kicked three goals and was a good presence on the HF line. Didn't look that soft but I'll have to look at the replay.

His kicking makes me cry. Held Tarrant well but god his skills need some work.

* Phil Matera is gone for a couple of weeks

I think I've missed something. What did Phil do? I know he's done something but I didn't see the whole game.

* With Read out you lack a genuine small tagger, Banfield isn't up to it.

Thought Brauny did well for a while but Holland was having a field day. Banners isn't match fit and only tags midfielders, not forward pockets. Tagging in the center isn't so much of a problem but we're short on small defenders.

Let the flaming commence :D

Matera whacked Lockyer with a forearm/elbow to the head whilst trying to shepherd.

It was silly, weak and quite uneccesary, oh and it wasn't careless, as the commentators said, it was quite deliberate.

Consequently Lockyer got carried off on a stretcher.

A definite two weeks imho

Yea..all that waste of time...down the tunnel he went on the stretcher and then two minutes later he was on the bench having a chinwag with another player.

Oh for oscar winning orchestration.

Yeah and was still feeling his jaw 20 minutes later

Judd was great and should get a rising star nomination for his first game.

Williams was great today and needs to be consistent - unfortunately Fletch was down after a great Derby

Gardiner is a great player but his kicking skills (around the ground) can be very dodgy. Still he is a great ruckman got 3 goals today.

Glassy will be great - made a few errors, but did some great work also.

Read is a big loss - I think Woosh left Banfield on Holland for too long, but Braun did a good job for most of the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Still Brauny's not a backman - maybe Wirra or Roo could have had a go - Humm might be a longer term options back there - it is a concern.

Judd was very impressive today, and dare I say it I think he held back a little in thw Wizard Cup, he looked even better out there today than at anytime during the preason. One of our top 5 on the ground today. Let's just hope we can hold onto him and keep him on board like we have with a few non WA players.

Williams frustrates the living crap out of me. The guy obviously has the potential to be great, but one minute youre singing his praises and the next your going beserk at him. Look at today's game, brilliant pack mark, turns around and gives one of the most amateur kick's youll ever see on a footy field to a man on the lead. It was just one particular phase of play but to me sums up his play almost perfectly.

Gardiner was very very soft at times today and reminded me of the timid kid we initially drafted. His problems today were mental and at times was just not with it. Overall though he is a great player, and will improve to be an even better one before the end of his career.

Glass has shown a lot today and last week and if he keeps up that sort of play he will prove to be an excellent defender in the future for our club.

Yes Read was definitely missed down back, the lack of a small defender with some genuine pace hurt us today, but it isnt a long term problem as Jeremy Humm's form has been excellent and will easily slot into the line up.

One thing that worried me about Glass today was the fact that his kicking at times was well below par... when you compare him to Collica who moved the ball well out of defence, thats one area he needs to improve on to become an excellent defender

I agree totally, his disposal both by foot and hand leaves a lot to be desired. Certainly an aspect of his game that needs to improve to move himself up to the next level.

phaty

I'm sure you're expecting me to get the flame-thrower out, but strangely I agree with most of that.

Judd - excellent

Williams - good in patches

Gardiner - despite his goals, I was disappointed with him today. He was soft on occasion and was beaten in the ruck early by Mark Richardson. There was a lot wrong with his game today, but hopefully he will lift his game.

Glass - did very well to negate Tarrant, but must improve his kicking. It can be done (see Collica). Must also stop the reflex, play-on handball that puts his teammates in trouble. Happens too often.

Matera - I'm still not sure he meant it and we'll see.

Small defenders - absolutely our biggest weakness. Banfield isn't up to it, Braun managed for a quarter and a half and then made some serious, game-turning mistakes. Expect Humm to get a run.

You will only be the 40th BF poster that i have to school on this subject in the last hour.

MATERA WAS NOT TRYING TO SHEPERD!! WAKELIN HAD THE BALL....LOCKYER WAS TRYING TO SHEPERD MATERA!!!

Footballers when there about to be hit by a sheperd protect themsleves as Fido did, his foreman slipped high caught him on the jaw and Lockyer won an Academy Award. It was not maliocious, it was not intended and i doubt Matera will even be reported.

Your comments on Gardiner .... well they were simply stupid.

I thought Gardy played quite well and was probably in our top 5 players on the ground. Got three goals and was a constant target up forward? Dont know what you were watching but each time we came back, Gardy was rotated back into the ruck....coincidence....i dont think so.

Besides that P&P's comments were overall werent they, not just todays game. Cos if he thinks that about Gardy overall then he's an idiot.

Phaty, you may recall, has a Steven King fixation, so his view on MG is accordingly negative.

However, I stand by my opinion. Gardy, I believe, thinks he is already a great player. The whole Eagles thing has gone to his head and he's not working hard enough. His taps rarely went to a teammates advantage today and I thought he was physically beaten a lot of the time. I agree his goals were valuable, but believe he can be much, much better than he was today.

Harsh, real harsh. One of your best, you could do with two of him...

Why not? They ignored Lockett. The tribunal has made a habit of being inconsistent, why start now?

I had a bloody detailed response to all of P&P's points, and then my 18month old sister pressed the restart button on my computer. Bloody hell, all that typing for nothing.

Ouch!!!!!

He can play alot better than he did against Collingwood. IMO and it may be biased but i dont care, he can be the best ruckmen in the game if he really got his act together. Hopefully this year he can really break into that top echolon of players.
