Raph Clarke on Burns?

This is not directly directed at Ross Lyon but also the other assistants in the box but surely between them all someone shouldv'e had the mind set to realise that Calrke on Burns late in the game was a miss match.
In the wet conditions as they were, Burns was always going to have an advatage when the ball hit the ground and leg speed, i could understand if it was a dry sunny day Raph wouldv'e matched him in the air but very poor match up from all in charge.
They couldv'e tryed Milne on Burns since Milny wasn't having the best of days in the forward line.

Enough of the negatives now some positives, although i tipped Geelong to win the Granny i'm confident Saints will bounce back and better for the loss and use it for motivation to get them across the line in 2010.
Unless there's major injurie's the Saints will win the granny next year, i know it's a long way away but just be patient Saints fans because your turn to celebrate is coming!

Don't forget Geelong have been working hard over tyhe pass 5 years to get their desired results so your hard work will pay off too.

Byrnes was a lot more influential in the final quarter than anyone could have expected, and while the match up certainly helped him, Geelong utilised the mismatch perfectly.

To be honest, I thought the first time I saw Raph on Byrnes it was just a temporary mismatch would would be quickly rectified.

Dempster should have been switched back straight away, with Raph going forward. Could've even gone with Mini, who should have the flexibility to take this role if Baker has found the right match-up elsewhere.

Thought Ross was outcoached on that one.

I think Raph's real issue is with his confidence. If he begins to string a few good games or examples of skill in a match together, he becomes more composed and relaxed and thus usually plays impressively. I personally cringed when Rooke tackled him in the opening minutes of the match not solely due to the potential goal it may lead to, but because he would lose his confidence and if he loses possession of the ball in the premature stages of the match, he usually struggles to regain that composure and often turns the ball over. He is definitely a required player as his run of the back flanks are vital but he must learn to overcome these self-doubts and the supporters can support him by not scrutinizing him whenever he is in possession of the ball.

I don't mind Raph forward, he probably won't kick any goals but at least they don't kick one when he F***s up.

Raph started playing forward - I think perahps under Grant. He kicked a few. I did laugh at the match up at one time was him on varco - being married to a geelong supporter I know that most of them have the same frustrations that alot of our supporters have with Raph. My self other then in the first quarter believe he played a good game.

I've been supporting him all year, saying he just needed a few games under his belt to get the confidence up etc. After the GF however, i think he's now in the 23-30 category of players at the club. This forward defensive press is gonna be more prevalent next season as other clubs adopt our model. If he doesn't have the composure/awareness now, it will only get more difficult for him in the future. It might be time for him to be back-up material only, unfortunately.

Won't work as a back up/emergency player because he needs to play several games in a row before he gets enough confidence. All too fragile for me.

Correct. Worth anything on the trade table?

Ugh the amount of times i saw Byrnes stoll past Raph on the wing in the last quarter. Terrible mistake.

Hah! This is so unfair! I was hating Raph BEFORE it was cool :D

No but in all seriousness... I can't stand him with the ball, I start freaking out and screaming KICK IT NOW! Highlighting the first Geelong goal as my point. If he gets delisted he can look back at the 2009 Prelim Final as his best game. Then Ignore everything after that i.e. The Grand Final, and his Removal from St Kilda.

Nick Riewoldt is just as likely to get delisted. Aka get use to him haters, Raph will be a St Kilda player for a very long time. He aint going nowhere. :thumbsu:

There were a number of miscalculations in the last qtr. But that's heat of the moment stuff.

Biggest dud aboriginal player ever to pull on the boots.....slow, shocking skills and awareness of a deaf and blind sloth!! Not worth a trade, either de-list or pay another club to take him. Tell me you don't cringe when he gets near the ball!!

Alex - I am very disappointed with you. After asking you back in your North Melbourne days whether there was any chance of getting you to the Saints ("nup"), now I find you are a Saints man on BF!!! :D
