i really hope st kilda supporters now stop using raph as our whipping boy as i rekon he was one of the main contributors to why we are in this grand final!! good on ya raph and go SAINTS

FQF

Yeah he did play brilliantly.

But we need it on a consistent level. I hope this is the beginning of The Raph Revolution.

(I remember posting the same thing last year and look what happened :o)

i think the best thing about raph for us is that he has delivered in every final hes played in the last 2 seasons when it matters the most, sure he has some bad games but yet to have a bad game in a big final :) Cmon sainters i cannot wait getting a hotel room in the city this thurz and fri nights maybe sat night also :) gotta enjoy this week sainters 12 years between 1 chance at HISTORY

Gee, I must have been watching a different game. I saw a brilliant display from our defenders. Do you think he played better than, Blake or Gilbert or Fisher or Goddard or Baker or Dawson? In fact im curious to know what players you think he played better than in our team?

Raph Hater???

Its not about who he played better than, its the fact that he played a good, strong game where he put his body on the line for the club.

Did he crap himself when two ruckman where going to kill him from behind? No
Did he turn the ball over every time he touched it?
No
Did he make error's?
Yes, but who doesnt in the game these days

I just dont like people specifically making cases for Raph Clarke. You mentioned that he was brilliant. Was he more brilliant than say Dawson? how would you rate his game compared to our other defenders. Or how do you rate brilliance?

I have never been a fan of his - always agreed he turns it over and puts our players under so much pressure.

But yesterday he did play very well - especially in that last quarter when it was there to be won.

I was right behind the goals (where the dogs were kicking in the last quarter) and I kept a close eye on him everytime the ball entered the 50. HE kept moving and moving and demanded the ball. He got in the right position to grab it and hack it the hell out of there!

Not to mention his superb mark when three dogs were coming towards him. If he dropped it (which many players would have), it would have cost us a goal.

I still think he has to limit his errors, but I think after last night's performance, he is definitely safe. His rebound defending was great and could prove vital next week.

:thumbsu:

raph made many horrific errors, dont be blind he was having a shocker until the last quarter...he lacks confidence with the ball and the opposition know it

He was very good. It seems he plays well during finals. Hopefully another top performance in seven days.

Were u at the game lol horrific errors? did he cost u 1 goal?? all i saw was run out of defence, effort after effort and spoils.... horrific errors no! he had a couple clangers but so did dal santo do u call them horrific ?

Also are u even a saints supporter MODRA??? are u an adelaide rat in hiding?

Maybe I need to take my Raph Clarke goggles off. But you have to admit the heart starts jumping when he gets possesion of the ball. Especially in knock out finals.

In saying this he is part of a very very brilliant defence.
Best defensive effort ive ever seen last night.

So was the man in your avvy when he was getting mauled by Hahn but I don't see you saying about Goddard failing to have a kick in a quarter and a bit of footy. Selective memory?

Raph was typical Raph, much like Milne in a way in that there are times where there is sheer stupidity but also times when you are surprised at his effort and how well he did things.

according to official stats he had 2 clangers as opposed to Dal who had 6, Milne had 4 from 12 possies. Gram had 4.

Your defence is so good on the back of a some of the unsung people in your back half.

Blake 8 1%ers, Raph 6, Gilbert 6. just for reference Goddard 1

Raph 3 contested marks, Goddard 0

Goddard is a great distributor of the ball, truly top class but he does rely on those other guys to do a lot of the grunt work to give him those opportunities to look good.

I suspect your coaching staff are looking beyond the possesion numbers when picking the teams.

Blake and Raph may not be silky smooth, but they do a lot of very unfashionable but vital work in your back half.

Perhaps after last night the knocker will finally get off the backs of Raph and Zac.

Raph was one of our best, I'd say maybe behind Roo, Dal, Lenny, Jones and Goddard.

People have to get over their fears of Raph actually being half decent. He was vital in quite a few plays last night.

Cmon, how good would it be if he had a blinder next week and nabbed a Norm Smith... haha wouldn't that shut up the critics?

He played well last night. By no means was he 'awesome'.

Made crucial mistakes with skills errors (Shanked a kick to Riewoldt with no-one around), and the one where he got caught holding the ball on the wing after making a decision not to give it off.

But on the flip side, he made a few great plays. The mark against 3 opponents was the highlight. He dropped that mark, game over!

His run and carry though the middle is fantastic. Just has to make the right decisions.

Onya' Raph :):thumbsu:

You say awesome, fantastic, sensational etc ???

Solid guys. Just solid. Did some nice things and ran out the game better than others, but a couple of bloopers including the holding the ball which was a complete lack of awareness.

A number of guys had much more influence and have not had a word of praise written about them.

Thought he played really well last night made a couple of mistakes but who doesn't. I just wish supporters would take the blinkers off Gram makes just as many glaring stuff ups every week but escapes the harsh comments of fellow supporters

Gee, I must have been watching a different game.

Funny that - I think you really did !

I saw a brilliant display from our defenders.

So did I. The defensive unit in total was very good - remind me, what position did Raph Clarke play again ?

Do you think he played better than, Blake or Gilbert or Fisher or Goddard or Baker or Dawson? In fact im curious to know what players you think he played better than in our team?

Yes he had a better game than Goddard, Gilbert, Blake, Baker and Dawson (equal to Fisher who was great as the lose defender - the last three were good, but not at Clarke's level last night).

Goddard and Gilbert were singled out by the Bulldogs with four of their seven goals coming from their opponents. You (and similar minded haters) would call for Clarke to be delisted after a defensive performance like that. I am not having a go at Goddard / Gilbert - just to show how one-sided your comments on Clarke are.

Hayes, Riewoldt and Dal Santo had better games. They were outstanding.

Raph (along with Fisher and Jones) was phantastic. I'll say it again : he was phantastic !

Ah seanoff, we saw Raph do your St Mary's proud, mate! :)

Look, I think Raph makes the mistakes (the holding the ball was one, for example) for precisely the same reason he's playing so well. He is pushing himself to his limit, taking the game to the limit. When that pays off, it comes of great. When it doesn't, he looks really, really bad!:) But hey, he's pulling it off more times than not at the moment, and good on him for it.

I've been one that in years gone by wanted him to never put on the Saints jumper again, but I am converted - St Raphael is the man.

You talk shit HMC. Your a Raph Clarke sympathiser.

You say he played better than, Gilbert and Fisher and Goddard and Dawson.

That is such a disrespect to those guys, to those warriors. I cant believe you think like that.

I really hope for my sake and your sake and for the sake of the STKILDA football club that he doesnt cost us a premiership with his indecision and turn over.

A number of guys had much more influence and have not had a word of praise written about them.

A number of others also had less influence and made more mistakes and no damning words were written about them.

The reason threads like this exist is because he's our whipping boy, so people are always going to point out what did well. His holding the ball was not a lack of awareness at all, he received the ball when he was immediately under the pump.

Raph was a very good contributor last night and I believe he does his best work forward of centre.
