Wallace was sent to Detroit after just 1 game with Atlanta almost right on the deadline.

Detroit got Wallace from Atlanta and Mike James from Boston.

Atlanta got Rebraca, Chris Mills, Bob Sura and a 1st round draft pick.

Boston got Lindsey Hunter, Chucky Atkins, Cash and Detroits 1st round pick this year.

Alot of crap thrown around with one quality player thrown in. Looks on the surface that Detroit got a steal. Dumars is pretty good.

Another couple of deals went down aswell, Girichek to Utah for Stevenson and Utah also sent Handlogten and Keon Clark to Phoenix for Gugliotta.

Pretty boring trade deadline.

Posted that about 4 seconds before I was going too. :p

I think Detroit done well in the trade, short term anyway.

Sheed and James will add some scoring power, give them some very nice depth too.

Something must be done about this ridiculous sell off from Atlanta.

It is a joke that a team can actively trade away all the quality they have, simply in order to clear cap room.

The NBA system is a joke.

The thing is though, I can't see Alt attracting any big free agent this summer anyway.

ANYWAY, Pistons have got sheed for 4 months.I doubt they'll resign him since they're clearing cap space for Memo. And then sheed's gunna come to NY for the MLE!

Why?

Seriously though if Atlanta wants to start again they have every right to do so, infact I prefer this type of rebuilding then the Golden State or Washington style of trying to fit the peices around second string players.

BTW IMO Atlanta's strategy is not just just about the cap room they are also trying to position themselves for Dwight Howard, Gorgia high school product, in hope that he can do for them (both in attendance and season turnaround) what LBJ did for Cleveland.

It's an interesting one and will test the loyalty of the Atlanta fans. We'll see if there is a drop off in attendance in the coming month. How are their other pro teams?

You don't see a problem with tanking a season in order to get a lottery pick?

If it happened in the AFL, we'd all be calling for the team to be fined and booted from the league.

Succint post Dingster.
As always. :D

Nah, I went to submit reply and got the damn refresh message. Went back, but didn't realise that the message had disappeared. Could be one of those days coming up. 18 degrees over here today in the middle of winter. Anythings possible!

Ah, didn't see your edit.

Their other teams are relatively good. The Braves are a quality team with quality players.

The Falcons had a bad year, but that's because their superstar quaterback, Mike Vick, missed most of the year.

Atlanta's other teams are a class above the Hawks, in terms of quality and attendance.

Different culture between AFL and NBA, is part of the explainationas well as that NBA (far more so then AFL) is a business and sometimes you need to write off certain assets and replace those with more productive assets. That is all Atlanta is doing whilst that sort of behaviour may be against yours (and mine) values I can understand it from strictly business perspective.

If players could be traded during the AFL season I dare say that you may see similier behaviour in AFL too.

The other thing is that with AFL you have 18 players on the field whilst within NBA there is 5 players on the court, therefore the impact that a draft pick can have on the game is far more significant within NBA.

As far as attendances go the Hawks are close to the seasons lowest and therfore any drop of in revenue would IMO be significantly compensated for by the reduced salary expense. I dare also say that majority of their current crowd are season ticket holders and they have already paid their money. In the long term if they can get Dwight Howard one would expect that drop of in attendance for the remainder of the season would be more then replaced by the influx of the new season ticket purchasers.

Atlanta did alright yesterday though, albeit with Wallace.

They were clearly heading down the wrong path and were going to achieve nothing with their current group of players, so they wanted to wipe the slate clean and start afresh.

Can't blame them.

All of a sudden Elton Brand for Jason Terry doesn't look to shabby, eh, Kenneth?

Isn't that what Carlton's being doing in recent years?

On no, they're just crap. My bad.

Yeah, looks better although Brand is still a better fantasy baller by some way.

But since the trade of Reef, he's averaging 18.0 points, 5.0 boards, 7.5 assists, 4.0 steals and 2.5 treys. Can't complain with those numbers. And now Rasheed gone also.

Until Rebraca was signed up, I was hoping Przybilla would get heaps of minutes. He's averaging 14.0 minutes in his career and 1.4 blocks in those 14 mins. If he could get 35 mins a night, that would equal some nice number of blocks. And can anyone else rebound in Atlanta?

Doesn't work that way unfortunately.

You would still hope he could get in between 2 and 3 blocks a night (if he gets the minutes), no? I'm not expecting him to get 4 a game or anything. I'm hoping for 8-10 boards and 2-3 blocks. His minutes might get cut now though.

You might hope it, but you shouldn't expect it.

He does well, blocks wise, in limited minutes, but to hope for about 3 blocks a game is ludicrous if you've ever seen him play.

Yeah not expecting it, picking him up was basically just a punt and hoping it pays off. I just need a centre and thought he might be a decent person to take a punt on, who else is there? Atleast I think he has some upside and could do well.

Noooooo, not Ben Handlogten!

Didn't mention you picking him up Kenny, merely commented on his ability, or lack thereof.

Hope he does well for you, just saying that one shouldn't expect or hope for 3 blocks a game, because you'll walk away horribly disappointed.

Two good examples are Jim McIlvaine and Calvin Booth, who both unfortunately suckered in my Sonics.

McIlvaine led the league in blocks per 48 minutes in 95/96, and Booth averaged five boards and two blocks in only 17 minutes two seasons ago for Dallas and Washington. However, as soon as they got extended minutes, their stats amazingly enough went down, as their problems (foul prone, unfit etc) were highlighted.

You'll find generally if they're not getting the minutes, there are adequate reasons. Then again I don't play fantasy basketball, so drill me if you must ;)
